Jim was the longtime Senior Minister at Blackshear Place Baptist Church (Christ Place), before serving in a similar role at First Baptist Church Roanoke, VA, as well as the Executive Director of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

The church wasn’t born in silence. It wasn't birthed in a room filled with the latest technology or lined with stained-glass windows. It happened in a simple house rattling with wind, fire, and voices shouting dozens of languages at once. And the Spirit didn’t wait for His followers to get their act together. He came while they waited, not after they perfected their theology or figured out their ecclesiology. He came because Jesus said He would. Pentecost. We'll consider it Sunday. Join us!

A Sunday School teacher had spent months teaching the children about Jesus' life and miracles, his death and glorious resurrection. And all it means for us today. A little boy raised his hand and asked, "So, when can we go visit Jesus?" For many Christians, like that boy, there’s a bit of a mysterious gap between Easter and Pentecost. Jesus is risen, then p**f, he’s gone, sending the Holy Spirit in his place. Christ's ascension gives an answer — or several — to the child's question. We consider it Sunday with "The Gift of Christ’s Ascension." Join us!
