Last week in worship, we contrasted two ways of living: one an extractive, self-focused way that leads to envy and contention and the other an invitation into seeing all things as a gift from God, meant for the blessing of all. I bet you can guess which one the Lord invites us into! We looked to the first offering the Israelites were to make in the Promised Land as inspiration for how our hearts might be turned back to God in gratitude for all God’s good gifts to us and to the world. This week in our “Gifted and Giving” stewardship series, we will turn our attention to the blessings that abound when offer ourselves to God, the privilege it is to partner with the Lord in the world, and the real, tangible goodness that arises when we follow Christ’s lead to share God’s love through word and through deed. 🏈 📣Let’s go Marcus High School and welcome to Flower Mound Braswell Highschool! If you’re parking with us before the Marcus homecoming game tomorrow, stop by for a hot dog and yard games before kickoff! All are welcome! Parking is free, but we will be accepting donations for Denton County Friends of the Family. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For the next two weeks, we are in a short series I’m calling “Gifted and Giving.” We are working out of Deuteronomy chapter 26 and the story that the Israelites tell about themselves when they bring their first offering to God in the Promised Land. They remember God’s grace. They remember the givenness of all that they have and how generous God has been to them. That is profoundly narrative shifting, especially in a culture like ours that works so hard to achieve. It’s easy to forget the blessings. So, before we talk about pledges, we are going to rest in a new, really old, story, and soak in gratitude. Join us this weekend at 9am in Bethel or 10:30am in the MPR. See you then.
