Last summer we hosted a Lunch & Learn sharing why our church is a joyfully affirming church. In this video, Pastor Jake lays out a scripturally based argument for LGBT+ inclusion, using the progression of the law and the prophets, the shifting emphasis from childbearing to adoption language from Hebrew scriptures to the Gospels, and the movement and growth of inclusion in the apostolic era. He also addresses the six "clobber texts" in the Bible that are often used to "prove" that the Bible is anti-LGBT+. In the end, the question is presented to us as it was to Peter. Since the gifts of God have fallen upon the q***r community, who are we to hinder God?

All are welcome here!

There is a link to handout available under the video as well➡

Ever wanted Pastor Jake or Pastor Kim to preach on a topic that you’ve got questions about, an idea about God that you love, a scripture that you love, or maybe a scripture that you just don’t understand? Now’s your moment. The preaching schedule for next year is open for your suggestions! Pastor Jake intends to read through your ideas and use them to guide his preparation for the next year when he goes away for planning time in June. Drop Pastor Jake a line and say a prayer!

If you’ve ever experienced something that you just couldn’t quite find the right words to express, you already know everything you need to know about Pentecost. How do you put into language the experience of feeling inspired, or being pushed into some new thing by a force beyond yourself, or the spark of a new idea or an "AH HA!" moment? Maybe we call it a fresh breeze or a burning inside of us? Whatever the Holy Spirit is doing, she (the Hebrew roots of the word for Spirit are feminine and though the Holy Spirit is, well, Spirit, and beyond gender, “they” feels too impersonal for the person of the Trinity who is said to dwell within us!) is utterly outside of our control, calling and gathering all people together in God’s embrace. Today we will celebrate God’s uncontrollable work, give thanks for those whom God is joining to our congregation, and celebrate communion - extending the feast into a picnic! Don’t forget to wear red!

This Sunday is our annual Pentecost Picnic after worship. Each year on Pentecost, we wear red to symbolize the "tongues of fire" that descended upon Jesus' followers to and remember the value of discipleship. Check out this article from Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) which will challenge us to embrace the "daring spirit of God" not just on Pentecost Sunday, but all year long.
