The gospel, with all its good news, revelations, and illumination, is not simply the door we walk through—it is the whole house. For the believer, it is where we spend the entirety of our days this side of salvation. In the majority of moments where the gospel is preached in the Bible, the audience is believers. We, too, need the constant reminder of all that has been accomplished through our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We often look to others and their giftings and compare them to the ways God has wired us. We question our purpose and wonder if this is all there is. But the body can only function with a diverse variety of parts. God uniquely wired each of us, and the more complacent we are in our giftings, the more boring the Christian life becomes.

The kingdom of God does not advance through programs, but people. The priority and the focus of the Church today is to make disciples of Jesus. There is a litany of good and right things in the world to take part in and give our attention to, but the primary role of the follower of Jesus is to make more followers of Jesus.

The body cannot function without water. It cannot take the spontaneous extra mile. It cannot care for others. It turns inward. Likewise, our spiritual bodies cannot serve people when we are not connected to the source of Life, our God. You cannot drink from an empty well. Abide in Him, replenish, and then pour out the overflow to those around you.

God created the world and everything in it, and on the seventh day He rested. In the law given to Moses, God set aside the seventh day as holy, a day for His people not to provide for themselves, but to worship and delight in God Himself, their provider. It serves as a reminder that life is more than producing and to rejoice in God and His works.
