History was about to be set on its heels, and the religious leaders of the day were about to learn they were not as in charge as they thought they were.
Saul, later known as Paul was an absolute terror when it came to the early church and persecuting Christians. He was violent towards followers of Jesus, causing harm to those who did not think as he did. What Paul did not realize was that his battle was with Jesus, and not with those who believed differently than he.
Oh, how different the world would look today if we could learn from Saul, and the rash misjudgments he made in the name of religion. Perhaps the world would be in a state of revival today, if our prejudices would be overshadowed with hope found only in Jesus, and if our battles were fought on the pages of scriptures instead of in the hearts and homes of ourselves and those we love.
When we first meet Saul, we soon learn he is passionate, however he was in desperate need of Jesus.
The verses in Acts 9 reveal a dynamic relationship between Saul, Ananias, and God that allows us to see surrender, obedience, and trust.
Ananias was introduced to us as a believer from Damascus. God called to him by name and Ananias replied immediately with, โYes, Lord!โ Little did Ananias know that when he said โYesโ to God that it would be the spark that would take the gospel to the corners of the earth.
Ananias did not question who was calling him, and he did not hesitate to respond. It is safe to say, that Ananias knew Godโs voice, leaving us to believe it was not the first time God called his name.
God gives Ananias his instructions, but when he hears the name, โSaulโ he says, โBut Lord.โ I wonder if Ananias could be heard whispering to himself, โGod, are you kidding me?โ Truth be told I have asked God that same question, if only out of disbelief. Iโm sure God understood why Ananias would have doubt and concern, after all Saul was killing people all in the name of the church.
Ananias was obedient to God, and as we know today, the world has never been the same.
Is there something that God has requested of you, and you just cannot believe that He would ask you of all people to do such a thing. Perhaps you have even whispered to yourself, โGod, are you kidding me?โ If you are having doubts, even fear about doing what God has asked, then pause and prayerfully with your scriptures, consider that the One who hangs the stars in the sky knows, your name.
I believe it could be said that Ananias had an undivided heart, committed to obeying the One who knew his name.
Is God calling your name today? Be prepared for your world to never be the same when you say, โYes, Lord, Yes!โ
โHear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me! 8 My heart has heard you say, โCome and talk with me.โ
And my heart responds, โโ๐ฟ๐๐๐, ๐ผ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐.โ Psalm 27:7-8
