Augustine Institute

Augustine Institute Helping Catholics understand, live, and share their faith. The Augustine Institute is bringing people to know and love God. Knowledge of God changes us.

From our foundation as a leading Catholic graduate school of theology, we've grown to become an educational apostolate defending and promoting the history and teachings of the Church through traditional and new media. We form leaders and grow the faithful. It grows our capacity to love God and others and creates a desire to be immersed in the Divine Truth, making it our first priority. You'll find

a friendly community of Catholics here, as well as materials and programs to help you and others enter more deeply into the life of faith. To paraphrase Chesterton, the moment you are fair to the Church, you begin to grow fond of it. Those who resist Catholic teaching do so mainly by walling themselves off from it. We help parishes and individual Catholics assess and share faithful and compelling content.

As we prepare to celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, we are invited to contemplate the mystery of the one God in three divine Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Every grace, every sacrament, and every work of salvation flows from the life of the Blessed Trinity. As the Catechism teaches, “the ultimate end of the whole divine economy is the entry of God’s creatures into the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity” (CCC 260).

Continue your reflection on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity with, Lectio: God on Formed and discover meditations, prayers, and hymns on the Amen app.

Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us.

Meet our youngest graduate, little Auggy!

But actually: Congratulations to his father, James Gillis, who graduated a few weeks back with his Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. James and his family are headed up to Wisconsin to begin a new path of study. We are so proud of James for his acceptance into Marquette University’s Ph.D. in Religious Studies program.

We wish the Gillis family every grace and blessing as they land in Brew City!

Spring semester lookback!

We were honored to have Dr. Abigail Jorgensen present a guest lecture to our students on a difficult yet important topic: Theology and Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Death

Dr. Jorgensen is an assistant professor of sociology and anthropology at Saint Louis University and is the author of "A Catholic Guide to Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss: Compassionate answers to difficult questions."

We are also proud to have her as a student at the Augustine Institute, earning a Masters in Pastoral Theology. Thank you, Dr. Jorgensen, for you incredible work in this area and for addressing an often overlooked topic in our world today.

You cannot continually pour out for others without caring for your own interior life.

In ministry, burnout often arrives quietly. Fatigue becomes normal. The joy that first inspired your mission can slowly begin to fade.

Join Jim Beckman for a practical conversation on sustainable ministry, identity in Christ, and caring for the heart of the ministry leader.

You’ll walk away with practical tools, healthier rhythms, and a renewed vision for serving others without losing yourself in the process.

And we are back! Summer semester begins today. Whether you are starting your degree this summer online or taking an elective course during campus intensive weeks, we can't wait to begin the study of theology with you.

CLASS HIGHLIGHT: Rabbinic Judaism and the New Testament with visiting Prof. Evangeline Kozitza Dean

In this elective class, students study the exegetical techniques of ancient Judaism and their influence upon Christian exegesis. They also learn how early rabbinic texts might help illuminate legal debates, genres, and traditions contained in the New Testament.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Congratulations to Courtney Robles, MA Pastoral Theology, for completing her capstone project titled “Parent Formation: Focusing on the Family by Empowering Parents as Primary Catechists”

Courtney designed and executed parish formation nights to support and accompany parents in their role as primary educators of the faith. These catechetical nights focused on deepening the faith within the home and reintegrating the family as the domestic church.

We wish Courtney every grace as she launches into her new role as Director of Religious Education!

BOOK GIVEAWAY!

Something old and something new. Enter to win a copy of God: What Every Catholic Should Know by Augustine Institute faculty member Dr. Elizabeth Klein, alongside the classic work that helped inspire it - St. Athanasius’ On the Incarnation.

To enter, follow our page and tag a friend in the comments who would love these books.

Dr. Klein: "St. Athanasius' treatment of why the Word of God became incarnate has rarely had an equal in the tradition for its clarity and insight. It was a big help to me in thinking about how to make the fundamental truths of the faith accessible to Catholics today in my own book!"

When God takes even one sinner and makes a saint, He is engaging in a work of eternal significance.

"Forgiven: The Transforming Power of Confession" explores the grace and healing offered in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and reveals the depth and bounty of God’s love.

Through Scripture and a step-by-step examination of the Rite itself, this series reveals God’s invitation to encounter His mercy through confession.

One year ago, the Church welcomed Pope Leo XIV with hope and anticipation.

In his first year as pope, Leo XIV has continued to call the faithful to a Christianity rooted not only in truth, but also in radical love, mercy, and solidarity with the most vulnerable.

May his ministry continue to be guided by wisdom, courage, and a deep commitment to the dignity of every human person.

As we mark one year of the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, we give thanks for his witness and leadership.
