North Church -
Please see the message below from Rik:
After prayer and seeking the direction of the Lord, I have decided to step away from North Church. The decision was difficult to make. North Church has been such a large part of my life and the life of my family since we started in March of 2007 and also going back to August of 2005 when we started building the core team.
There are a few unknowns about what is next.
For me and my family… We will be taking a break from pastoring for a season. Perhaps that will be for a month and perhaps that break will be for several months. But, I am confident in my call to be a pastor in some form. God created my life to shepherd people toward Jesus. It is foundational to who I am. I have said many times that the most dangerous thing a follower of Jesus can do is to ignore what God has called you to do.
The upcoming season is a season of rest, but I will pastor again in some capacity. Part of my resting season will be examining where my passions and giftings can serve the Church and how the modern Church can best accomplish the mission the Christ has given her.
Rik’s last Sunday at North Church will be October 17th. Since you are reading this, it is highly likely that Rik and North Church have impacted your life. Feel free to reach out to Rik to let him know how loved and appreciated he is.
Our plan is to hold our normal Sunday worship gatherings with Rik preaching on both October 10 and on October 17. We are not sure what this will mean for North Church after that, but there is a group of us that is willing to explore what it might look like to rebirth a church from the existing relationships. The only things we are sure of are the desire to continue pursuing God together and our desire to creatively explore what church could look like.
Please be praying for Rik, his family, and for North Church.
Thank you,
North Church Elders
