I want to take this time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and talk about some upcoming changes.
Although COVID has created some issues with worshipping together this year, it has also allowed us to step back and look at the Church. The decision has been made that when we open back up, we are taking a different direction than most church’s today. We are going to be having cowboy church services.
Don’t let the idea or cowboy church name cause you to think you must show up with boots, Spurs and a ten gallon hat. Cowboy churches are known for holding “come as you are services”, meaning that no one cares what you wear, we just care you are there.
There are many reasons that this idea came about. The main one is to look at the idea and heritage of the church. It was founded during the times where life was much simpler. We wont be pulling out the indoor plumbing and switching back to having an outhouse. We will still use modern conveniences, but we want to celebrate that heritage and keep that old country church vibe.
Also the location was a factor. The church is not only beautiful, but in a great spot. Location gives us the ability to hold outdoor services, hay rides, trail rides, outdoor movies, and really anything else you can think of where noise, neighbors, and traffic would cause issues. Back in the days the church was built, the community came and they supported each other. The ability to travel to the next town was not an option for a horse and buggy ride like it is today. The focus and idea on church has changed from what it once was. This has allowed the smaller country churches to not be able to compete with the big city churches, causing most to close. Our idea is not to compete, but to offer a different experience than from those of the mainstream churches today.
One big change, but typical in a cowboy church setting is that there are no offering plates being passed around. If people wish to contribute, a box at the back of the church will be there for your donation. The last thing that should keep people from walking through our doors is the belief that they have to pay to sit with us and worship on Sunday mornings. Salvation is free, so why should people feel obligated to pay to hear the message! Yes, it costs money to keep the church going, there are bills to pay, but we will leave that up to God.
These are just a few of the many reasons this decision has been made. We realize this type of service might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there are many who have “adapted” to the new mainstream churches. Again, our hope is that rather than feeling like there is a need to compete and keep up with ever changing technology and ideas with other churches as so many do, we will simply stick with what we as a church can offer: heritage, a beautiful setting, caring individuals, and the love of Christ.
Merry Christmas to you all and we hope to see you soon!
