It’s hard to believe that we are beginning our eighth month of using our new Lincoln pipe organ in worship. Here are some “behind the scene” sights — mostly taken in the Swell organ chamber. Nearly all of these pipes are from the Æolian-Skinner organ used as the nucleus for our new instrument.

What an exciting day!!! The past few weeks have been busy with the installation of our new pipe organ, but only a few of the pipes were on site. Today, most of the 2,000+ organ pipes arrived from the shop of the Lincoln Pipe Organ, Inc. Some have been installed today, many more will be set on the toe boards tomorrow. Here’s a peek!

What a day this has been!
Our organ console has been brought to the chancel!
Our façade pipes are stretched out across pews in the choir area and the nave.
We are so much closer to hearing the tones of our new organ!
Soli Deo gloria!

I’m very happy to report that organ installation is in full swing at St. John’s! This is what our new organ cases look like now. In a couple weeks we hope to see these filled with pipes!
Kudos to the staff of Lincoln Pipe Organs, Inc., of Lincolnton, NC, for their attentiveness to detail and for outstanding workmanship and service.
In October we will be hearing the wide range of sounds created by this instrument.

Installation of our new pipe organ began today!! This is in the Swell chamber, where most of the ranks of pipes will be from Æolian-Skinner Opus 1338, which we purchased in 2017 as the nucleus of our new instrument. Additional ranks from the Æolian-Skinner will be found in the Great organ, which will have exposed pipes in the Chancel.
Pictured are Josh and Stephen of Lincoln Pipe Organs.

In 2017 we were privileged to be able to purchase an Æolian-Skinner organ, Opus 1338. The organ was built in 1957 for First Methodist, Starkville, MS. Æolian-Skinner was the preeminent organ builder in the United States from its inception as Skinner Organ Company in 1901 until it closed in 1972. Most notably Æolian-Skinner was credited with the development of the American Classic style of organ building, an internationally respected style of organ construction.
It was our desire to build an organ in the style of Æolian-Skinner, so the opportunity to begin with Opus 1338 as the nucleus of our new instrument was fortuitous.
Nationally renowned organs built by Æolian-Skinner include The Riverside Church in New York City, the Mormon Tabernacle organ, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, and many other prized instruments.
We anxiously await installation of our new organ by Lincoln Pipe Organs, beginning next week.

It’s been a long silence since we’ve posted on St. John’s Music Ministry page. The COVID-19 virus has severely restricted our music ministry at St. John’s. But regardless of what the virus does, 2021 will be a significant year in our music ministry for one special reason: it is the YEAR OF THE ORGAN!!!

A new pipe organ is being built for St. John’s by LINCOLN PIPE ORGANS, Inc., of Lincolnton, NC. Beginning today, we are featuring a weekly post about the organ.

Share this! Our parish family is extraordinarily excited about this significant development in our worship life.
