Scripture:
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24–25 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought:
We gather as the church for many reasons. As a young man, selfish in my thinking, i thought church to be a good thing to do for yourself. If i had other things i desired or things needing attention, then i would just miss the opportunity to go to church. With a careful look at the verses above, one cannot help but see a totally different perspective.

We should think on how we can stir up love in word and deed in each other. We need encouragement from other believers. Then we are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves. A closer look at the words “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves” shows it is more clearly translated…do not “abandon” the assembling or the gathering. WOW, this changes the consumer mentality of “what i get from church” to a Christlike attitude of “what i give the church.”

If we are not there, we are withholding the gifts that God has given us from the church. Then, to abandon does not just harm us individually. For us to abandon the gathering, we can leave others unattended by our prayers, unencouraged by our presence, and unhelped by our resources. We need each other. Jesus gave His life for the church; we should be willing to give ours to it!

Consider:
How important is gathering with the church to me? In light of this passage’s instruction to gather more, am i obedient to this instruction? Have i become okay with abandoning the Sunday night and Wednesday night gatherings? Have i had a consumer mentality, only considering the effects on myself of not gathering consistently and frequently with God’s people? See less

Day 17 (Oct 22)
Scripture:
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought:
The church was never promised easy living. Human nature is to rely on logic, planning, ability, and effort to alleviate problems or difficulties. One does not have to live long to determine we are not enough. So, what do we turn to in our journey with Jesus here in a fallen world full of fallen people? We turn to God in prayer.

Too often we have looked inward to ourselves to figure it out or solve the problem. Other times we have looked outward to other people to “fix it.” But if we are to live the bold and victorious Christian life, we must learn to pray. Prayer is the humble act of submission and relation to Almighty God. Jesus made it possible by His atoning sacrifice. It is, my dear brother or sister, a blood-bought privilege. And in it we commune with God! It is in prayer we die a little more to ourselves daily. Yes, in prayer we battle against the raging forces of darkness. We also come to prayer to get to know God better. May we never underestimate or neglect prayer!

Consider:
Am i bold in this most holy faith? Am i being used by God? Do i spend enough time in communion with God by prayer? Have i missed the magnitude of it? Have i neglected it? Do i believe prayer makes a difference?

Day 16 (Oct 21)
Scripture:
Fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Philippians 2:2 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought: Unity is critical to the mission of the church here on earth. We cannot accomplish very much if we are divided by our perspectives or our missions. It glorifies God when His people think and operate as one! Our minds must continually be renewed by His Word and His Spirit. We have to forgive and agree to disagree on the minors. Our unity as His church is a gospel witness to the world. Jesus prayed in John 17 that we would be one so that the world would believe that the Father had sent Him. It grieves God’s Spirit when His children are at odds with one another and hurt or neglect one another.

Consider: Do i really understand how important an issue unity is to my Heavenly Father? Have i majored on the minors instead of focusing on the eternally significant truths of the Faith? Is the division between me and ____ a roadblock to a mighty move of God in my life and His church? How can i get over what has offended me? Is the mission greater than my feelings? Is the Lord more important than my desire to be right and prove a point by ignoring or mistreating another brother or sister in Christ?

Day 15 (Oct 20)
Scripture: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34–35 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought:
Love is not simply a feeling. Love is a decision of the will expressed in conduct, both active and inactive. Love is on display in what we do because of love and what we will not do because of love. We have this flaw in our natural love in that we love conditionally. We need something in return, and if we do not receive it, or worse yet, if we are hurt or betrayed by each other, we tend to withhold love from, retaliate against, or ignore the one who did us wrong. BUT Jesus calls those who are His disciples to love one another continually. He also gives clear details of how we are to love each other. Jesus said, “…love one another; as I have loved you.” This specific love…His manner of love…is the highest form of love. It is not a response to good behavior or the trade-off for something good offered. His love is to all people, even His enemies.

Think about it: He loved Judas so well no one else in the group knew he would be the betrayer, even though Jesus did. We are called to love difficult people, who can oftentimes be our own families, sacrificially, unconditionally, and to demonstrate it! Now surely the body of Christ, the church, is made up of some characters, lol. We can all be difficult, mean, and selfish. Christlike love is the answer. With His help we can!

Consider: What manner of love do i extend to my faith family? Who am i holding love back from? How can i love those who have hurt me in any way?

Day 14 (Oct 19)
Scripture: So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought: God has an amazing way of getting into the heart and life of a member of a family and then, by the witness of their changed life and their invitation to come to Jesus, beginning to liberate a family from the power and devastation of sin. On many different occasions i have seen Him come in and then save the whole family. When Jesus is close, the evidence is observable, and explanations are given pointing others to Him, lives change!

Consider: Who in your family is lost or at least shows no evidence of an authentic salvation? Do any of your family members testify of their salvation both in word and deed? Could it be that God’s plan is to infiltrate the family through you? Are you living for Him in such a way that is undeniable to those who are around you the most? Does your family need reviving?

If you have never been born again, repent, or turn away from sin, and trust in Jesus the Son of God and His death and resurrection as evidence of God’s great love and the only acceptable means by which to be right with God. Confess and receive Jesus as your Lord (above everything and everyone)

The Heart of God for the Lost Luke 15
God's Heart is to rescue the lost, not reject them.

Scripture:
“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought:
The house is an illustration of the home, made up of the family unit. I cannot imagine a person who would start a family and desire for it to fall apart. Most people want their family to do well, be protected, and thrive.

Where destruction can happen is when they do not know the Lord or when the Lord is not the One they have turned to for instruction on how to do family, how to live out each member’s role in the family, how to resist the enemy, how to love unconditionally, and other very important principles for building a strong and thriving family.

So, energy and effort are spent trying to do what we see others do, what our parents did, or what feels right. No amount of human preparation or effort can keep the family together and thriving. Only the Lord can.

Consider:
What does God’s Word say about the structure of the family? Who is supposed to lead? How are we to serve each other? What does God say about the role of children? Whichever of these roles I may fit into, am I living it out according to His design? Is Jesus Lord of my heart, home, marriage, finances, time, and goals?

Prayer:
Lord, send a revival to my home and to each member of my family. Touch my heart to live Your way. Give me hope again where I have given up on change for us all or for any one of us. Please build or rebuild my family according to Your will.

“Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” Colossians 3:13 (NKJV)

We’re quick to give ourselves grace and slow to give it to others, at home and in the church family alike. But since Christ has forgiven us, we can forgive too.
