Located behind dozens of pine trees, one could miss it at the beginning of the Parkwood subdivision. After passing Carolina's Hospital System on your left, on the way to the beach, Parkwood presents in 1.2 miles on the right. From the location, one's expectations of an intimate setting that fosters real connections with church members and friends will be met. Either because of the quiet location o
r the changing tides of religious worship, the small congregation is one where not only a visitor will be welcomed, but he or she will have opportunities to make a difference. But before that, parking is easy and available under numerous shade trees located to the left of the church building. The front doors should be open, and when you enter the foyer, expect to be greeted and handed a bulletin, which will outline the service, provide details about the hymns to be sung, and notate the scriptures for the day's sermon. The white walls give the sanctuary a country feel. The carpet and pew fabric are a rich burgundy. Care is taken to keep the wood polished and the floors clear of dirt. Until the service begins, the organist plays traditional and contemporary hymns, perfect for settling-in and meditation. Ample seating is available on both the right and left sides of the aisle. Members and visitors wear a variety of styles ranging from smart casual to business formal. And on certain holidays the ladies all wear hats. It's not a requirement, though. Announcements of such traditions will be made beforehand, so everyone can participate if she wants. Hymns sung come from an old book, a couple of shades lighter than the carpet. And the preaching is Calvinist with an historical and biographical slant. Parkwood is traditional without being exclusive. It's simple without being haphazard. The time and care the members take for the church provide a nice atmosphere for worship and fellowship. We welcome all.
