Everybody wants to be liked. We all have this desire within us to be liked and loved and to hang with the “cool people.” Nobody wants to be picked last in the “pick-up” games. Nobody wants to sit alone at lunch. And so, we compromise. We do whatever it takes to be liked by people. Rejection hurts, and we don’t want to be ridiculed or made fun of. We want to be loved and accepted and we certainly don’t want to be persecuted. Many of us find our value in how many “likes” we got on social media? We want to be liked. And especially on social media.

But guess what? Jesus tells us out right that if you follow him, you will not be liked. As a matter of fact, you will be persecuted! The apostle Paul also tells Timothy,

“Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” 2 Timothy 3:12 (NLT)

Scripture is clear that those who live their lives for Jesus will suffer persecution in some way. So how do we deal with that? How to we prepare for persecution? We are currently doing a sermon series on being prepared for things that happen in life, and since we know that Scripture tells us we will be persecuted, then how do we prepare for it? In this week’s message we are going to look at how to prepare for persecution based on Jesus’ instructions found in John chapters 15 and 16. Join us. Everyone is welcome!

We are on week three in our series on how to be prepared for what happens in life. We began by looking at how to deal with temptation and then last week we looked at how to deal with trials. This week we are going to look at how to prepare for betrayal.

One of the most famous betrayals in history was the betrayal of Julius Caesar. No treachery is worse than betrayal by a family member or friend. Julius Caesar knew such treachery. Among the conspirators who assassinated the Roman leader on March 15, 44 was Marcus Junius Brutus. Caesar not only trusted Brutus, he had favored him as a son. According to Roman historians, Caesar first resisted the onslaught of the assassins. But when he saw Brutus among them with his dagger drawn, Caesar ceased to struggle and, pulling the top part of his robe over his face, asked the famous question, "You too, Brutus?"

I was reminded of this incident this week when I was reading about Judas Iscariot. This was the greatest betrayal in human history. But what can we learn from this tragic event? What does it teach us? What immediately comes to your mind when you hear the name Judas? Is it revulsion or traitor? Traitors are always evil! Is it sympathy? Is it anger, hurt, disappointment? What emotion or emotions does his name provoke?
Every one of us has experienced the pain of betrayal, dishonesty, gossip and hurt from someone close to us. And, at times, we have been that kind of person to someone else.

So, what does God have to say about our response when a friend/loved one fails us? How can we prepare for such an atrocity as betrayal? How can we heal from it? In this week’s message we are going to try to answer those questions and more. But here is a better question for us to ponder: Since we cannot change the situation or even the person, how can we allow God to change us so that we respond in a way that would please Him? That is our goal for this message.

Join us this week as we learn how to prepare for the hurt, disappointment and betrayal by those we love and trust. All are welcome!

Last week we began a new series about how things in life happen and how to prepare for them. We began by looking at how to be prepared for temptations. This week are going to look at how to be prepared for trials.

There is not a single person who has not been through a trial and there is not a single person who won’t go through another trial. Whether it is a trial in your marriage, with your kids, taking care of aging parents, finances, job security, health issues, spiritual droughts, you name it, we face it.

But I want you to think about something. Nothing defines you better than how you act or respond when you face trails, struggles or temptations or negative situations. Stop and think about the last time you went through a bad situation. How did you think, react or respond? What did you say or do? What kind of person are you when troubles or trials come? The apostle James tells us to let trials be an opportunity for joy. Actually, he gives us a formula in his letter. He says: “Your faith is tested by a trial, then as you endure that trial your endurance grows, and when your endurance is fully developed you become a person of character or maturity! Now, that is good news!

But if you are like me, then you have probably asked the question “Why?” “Why God, why would you let me go through this? What is the purpose of this trial Lord? Why me Lord?” That is really the question I want to answer in this message. And by answering the question as to “why” God allows us to go through trials, I believe we will find the answer(s) as to how to be prepared for trials.

Join us this week as we prepare to face trials. All are welcome!
