A few years ago, I watched a show called Band of Brothers that was based on a true story. In 1942, the U.S. army assembled a volunteer parachute regiment to jump behind enemy lines. This brave group of men, called Easy Company, parachuted behind enemy lines in the early hours of D-Day in support of the landings at Utah beach. They participated in the liberation of Holland, held the front line in the Battle of Bulge and were the first to enter Hitler's mountain retreat. They also sustained one of the highest casualties ratings of any other troops in WWII.
But before all of that, these men came from all walks of life, with one purpose to fulfill and an acknowledgement of a higher calling, to support their country in a time of war. The weak were weeded out through boot camp and only the strong survived the brutal training. But for those who remained? Through that breaking and training period of their lives, friendships and unbreakable bonds were formed and the strength of the unit was solidified.
The symbol of their unit was a mountain called Cherokee and their motto became “Currahee.” Currahee is derived from a Cherokee word meaning “Stand Alone.” Before departing for the war, Colonel Robert Sink was quoted as saying: “You are a member of one of the finest regiments in the United States Army and consequently in the world. “Remember our battle cry and motto, ‘Currahee’, and its meaning: ‘Standing Alone.’ We Stand Alone Together.” That quote grabbed my attention. We Stand Alone, Together.
They needed the ability, the skillset, and training to stand on their own so they could stand together with their brothers in combat.
Does that not represent us as Kingdom minded warriors? Like them, We Stand Alone, Together. I can’t fight any of your demons, your mental battles and struggles. And likewise, none of you can fight mine, so in that sense we each have to be prepared to stand alone. We have to have our own crafted swords and our own Faith. By that, I mean we have to know the Word for ourselves to combat the enemy and his lies with an unshakable trust in God.
BUT we have the ability and obligation to come alongside each other and stand together, to offer prayers of support and protection and wisdom. I can stand beside you as you take on each demonic force that has come against you and encourage you in your fight. When you want to quit, I can remind you that the battle isn’t won, so it isn’t yet over, and I won’t allow you to stop, quit or sit. I can show you what swords (scriptures) I’ve used to combat similar enemies. Depression? I got a sword for that! Anxiety? I have several swords in that area!
And I can tell you that I have a fierce group of battle scarred women that back me up. Not one of them will let me quit in a battle that has yet to be won. I’m sure if they could, they’d jump in and fight a difficult battle for me, just like I’d jump in, if I could and take on any battle for them. But I can’t wear their armor and they can’t wear mine. I can’t wield a sword meant for them to swing against an enemy and they can’t wield one meant for me.
I’m thankful for my group of girls that carry swords.
So, if you need encouragement, reach out. If you’re in a difficult battle, let us know because our prayers are not bound by location. We serve a living and omnipotent God who answers our prayers. He is and always will be undefeated.
Romans 1:12 When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.
Ecclesiastes 4:12
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
Nehemiah 4:14 Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”
