“Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.”

Only a fool wants war, but only a fool will not go to war when it is necessary. There are times when war is necessary: to defend if attacked, to defeat evil or protect and free the innocent from oppression. Even so only a fool goes to war without proper training. David declares that God trains his hands for war and his fingers for battle. David at this point in his life was no rookie when it came to fighting. He was well trained to take on the enemy on the battlefield. There is ongoing spiritual warfare and if we are not properly trained or equipped for it we will have pain, frustration and loss. How do we get equipped for the battle? We join together( go to church ) with other believers( Paul calls them saints ) and sit under sound teaching. But also pray, serve, love one another, read the Bible, submit to The Lord( and the devil shall flee or retreat from the attack ). So don’t try to do battle without training and without The Lord. Don’t be ignorant of the devil’s schemes, but have wisdom and a sound mind and be ready for the battle ahead.
