A Prayer of Remembrance — September 11, 2001

Heavenly Father,

Twenty-five years have passed, yet we remember.

We remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the families whose lives were forever changed. We remember the firefighters, police officers, first responders, military personnel, and ordinary people who ran toward danger to help others. We remember the courage, sacrifice, compassion, and unity that emerged in the midst of unimaginable sorrow.

Lord, today we ask You to draw near to those who still grieve. Comfort families who feel the absence of someone they love. Strengthen those who carry wounds seen and unseen. Be near to first responders, survivors, veterans, and all whose lives were forever marked by that day.

Where there is hatred, make us people of love.
Where there is division, make us instruments of peace.
Where there is fear, remind us that You are our refuge.
Where there is darkness, help the light of Christ shine through us.

Teach us to remember how precious life is, how deeply we need one another, and how desperately our world needs the hope of Jesus.

As a church, may we be people who pray for our nation, love our neighbors, serve those who are hurting, and faithfully proclaim the peace that can only be found in Christ.

Today, we remember.
Today, we pray.
And today, we place our hope in You.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

In the name of Jesus,
Amen.

“God didn’t call you to be liked. He called you to be light. Light, by its very nature, makes darkness uncomfortable.”

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14

Following Jesus was never meant to be a popularity contest. There will be moments when living according to God’s Word makes others uncomfortable. There will be times when standing for truth costs us approval. There will be moments when obedience means we do not fit in.

Light does not apologize for shining. It simply shines.

Our calling is not to blend into the darkness around us. Our calling is to reflect Jesus so clearly that people can see there is another way to live.

This week, do not measure your faithfulness by how many people approve of you. Measure it by how faithfully your life points people to Jesus.

Be gracious. Be loving. Be humble. Be bold.

Most of all, be light.

A New Week, A New Chance

Monday has a way of reminding us that we get to begin again. Last week may not have gone the way you hoped. Maybe you said something you wish you could take back. Maybe you made a poor decision, missed an opportunity, lost your patience, or simply didn’t follow through on something you knew you needed to do.

The good news is that our God is a God of second chances.

Peter denied Jesus three times, but his failure wasn’t the end of his story. Jesus met Peter again, restored him, and gave him a new purpose. Peter’s worst moment did not disqualify him from what God still wanted to do through his life.

The same is true for us.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” Lamentations 3:22–23

God’s mercy is not something we used up last week. His grace is not exhausted by our failures. Every morning is another opportunity to turn toward Him, receive His forgiveness, and take another faithful step.

Maybe you need a second chance today. Maybe you need to forgive someone and give them another chance. Maybe you need to try again at something you almost gave up on. Maybe you simply need to stop allowing yesterday’s mistakes to determine today’s possibilities. It’s Monday. It’s a new week, and because of God’s grace, there are new chances. You cannot change last week, but with God’s help, you can faithfully live the day He has given you today.

“Behold, I am making all things new.” Revelation 21:5

What might God be giving you another chance to do this week?

Saturday, August 15 is National Relaxation Day, and while the world may call it relaxation, Scripture reminds us that rest has always been part of God’s design for us.

We live in a world that celebrates being busy. There is always one more thing to do, one more place to go, one more problem to solve. But Jesus offers us something different:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Rest isn’t laziness. Sometimes, rest is an act of trust. It is laying down what we carry and remembering that God is still God even when we stop.

So this weekend, take some time to slow down. Breathe. Pray. Be still. Enjoy the people God has placed around you.

Then on Sunday morning, come find another kind of rest, the rest that comes from gathering with God’s people, worshiping together, and being renewed in His presence.
