Just a reminder that the cemetery association's annual meeting, and meeting of the board will occur on October 4, pursuant to the by-laws as amended last year.

It legally starts at 10:00 am but some of us will be deer hunting till close to noon. We will be there until about 1PM when we will all likely retire to The Pharm in Buffalo for lunch.

Sorry I didn't remember to do this earlier. It took two relatives to remind me... See everyone there.

Rene' and Ron Boullion spent a week in Buffalo and many hours working out at the cemetery mowing, weedwhacking and filling in unlevel spots. They also started painting the fence but have only made it about a third of the way around. They are leaving soon but will return in a month or so.

Ron also did the tractor work to install a culvert for the new entrance, fill it, and spread rock over it that the county provided. You can now use the new entrance! Thanks Ron and Rene'.

I also spent time there doing additional measurements for the plat, and looking for the marker for E. L. Smith (1921.) I know it is there somewhere but have not found it in recent years. I feel it will take some time cleaning up the back part of the cemetery to find it. It is obviously covered by years of leaves dropping from the trees.

By the way, we have found what appears to be about 5 previously unknown gravesites this year. I'm looking for some inexpensive but well made crosses that will not rust to mark these new gravesites. If anyone has knowledge of where to purchase or how to make please let me know.

Next trip there for me will be the 27th. to continue looking...

The Marvin Lynch/Willow Taylor monument fell over this week. Anyone know of any descendants that would like to arrange to reset it upright?

Don't forget Texas Cemetery visitation Day this Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Some of the family will be at the cemetery to visit and work on a couple of project including cleaning the pollen from headstones, raking and leveling aroung the headstones, treating for ants, and removing more yupon from the area.

We are also going to be searching for the marker for E.L. Smith that is buried in the back of the cemetery. It is a ground marker and has been covered with leaves and growth for many years.

Pay tribute to your ancestors by helping to maintain our cemetery. You can do that by helping out occasionally or even through a monetary donation.

Texas Cemetery Visitation Day is always the 1st. Sunday in April. Please consider coming out to the cemetery this day to visit with loved ones, relatives, and the cemetery board to discuss future projects. It will be a good day to see if any family headstones needs cleaning, checking the fences, and checking for trees that need to be attended.

All that are interested, please put October 5th on your calendar to visit the Taylor Cemetery. 10:00 to 1:00. The annual meeting plus the reveal of the historical marker. Any potential clean up, social gathering, then into town for lunch. Invite any other family members also. This past year we buried two. Cheryl and Michael Gray. This brings the total to 33 close family members. However, the Odens in the back portion of the cemetery are distant relatives by marriage. Wtih those the total is now 43 with more unmarked graves suspected.

In the next couple of weeks Joe Smith and I will be placing the historical marker in the Taylor Cemetery. The post mount will be installed Tuesday, April 23rd, and the marker itself will be placed on the post after the setting cures completely. Most likely the weekend of the Wheelock Cemetery meeting, May 4th.

Interesting read from the Bullock Museum..

Doc Taylor purchased the cotton gin and grist mill from the Yarborough's about 1900 and then sold it back in 1911. I'd love to discover the story behind this transaction.

Where is this stone today? Does anyone know Lori Barnet, daughter of Earl Hill Moore? She may know the answer...

The story of family heirloom, a mill stone from the Yarborough Grist Mill from the Flo community in Texas.

On May 4th, the Wheelock Cemetery has it's annual get-together and meeting. They have invited us as well. As you know many of us have relatives at Wheelock Cemetery as well.

They will gather prior to noon and have drinks and eats (bring your own) and most likely a lot of visiting. Then the meeting after lunch with potentially some doing some annual cleanup.

We will definitely have the Historical Marker installed by then so plan on coming out that day to see the marker and visit with distant relatives. (No work required, lol)

It is a sad day when you lose a family member, it is even more sad when you lose two of them so close together. Please join us for a graveside gathering of friends and family.

Here are the images from the new entrance. In case you have not heard, a survey of the property determined that the existing entrance that we have been using for generations is actually on the neighbors property. Being the good neighbors that I wanted to give the neighbor back his land and move the entrance to the center of the property. This is the result. Which is the best, in your opinion?
