THAT’S NOT THE PROBLEM!
My steering wheel on my riding lawn mower was acting up this past Friday, so I took it apart to see what was wrong with it. Best that I could determine, it needed a new steering gear. So, I took the old gear off the steering shaft and took it to my local lawn mower repair shop. I handed the gear to the guy behind the parts counter and asked, “Do you guys stock this part?” The parts guy inspected the part for about 15 seconds and replied, “Yes, we do … but this is not what you need … THAT’S NOT THE PROBLEM. Just looking at this part I can tell what your real problem is.” He proceeded to tell me about another part that the steering shaft fits through directly above the steering gear. He went and got the part and showed it to me. “This is what you need right here,” he said confidently. “I’ll still sell you a new steering gear if you want it, but that won’t fix your problem. This little $8 part is what you need … I’m positive about it!”

He said it with such confidence and assurance that I knew he had to be right. After all, he’s seen hundreds of these issues in his years as a parts professional. I THOUGHT I knew what the problem was … He KNEW what the problem was. I took the part home with me, installed it on my lawnmower and the steering wheel worked like a charm!

In our world today, there are so many voices telling us what the root problems are in our society and culture. As I was in a discussion about a recent court case that made national headlines, several remedies were suggested as to how to fix the problem involved in the case. I didn’t put my two cents worth in because others seemed very adamant that they had discovered the problem that needed to be fixed. “Our government is the problem,” “A lack of mental health care is the problem,” “Marital issues is the problem,” “Societal pressures is the problem,” … I heard a lot of options about the root cause. All the while I was thinking within myself, “SIN IS THE PROBLEM.”

Whether we want to admit it or not, the root cause for every problem in our society is SIN. As a matter of fact, it is such a problem that God had to do something EXTREME to fix the problem. HE SENT HIS ONLY SON TO DIE FOR OUR SINS … thus cleansing us from the guilt of sin that we carried. Yet, even though He paid the price for our sin, SIN still exists in this world. Not until Satan is permanently cast into the lake of fire forever will we be totally free from the repercussions of sin, but for now, the penalty for SIN has been paid … by an innocent party … by Jesus Christ … the one who loved us so much that He laid down His life to fix THE REAL PROBLEM.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of SIN is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

James 1:14-15
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to SIN; and SIN, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

FROM "HE" TO "YOU"
During yesterday’s morning walk, I prayed part of Psalm 23 during my prayer time. I’ve recorded the words here so you can see what I’m about to reference. Take note of the words in ALL CAPS in the following prayer: “The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. HE makes me lie down in green pastures. HE leads me beside still waters. HE restores my soul. HE leads me in the paths of righteousness for HIS name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for YOU are with me. YOUR rod and YOUR staff, they comfort me. YOU prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. YOU anoint my head with oil…..”

Well, I had never paid close enough attention to the prayer before, but I had a “revelation moment” yesterday as I prayed these words. Notice that as the prayer starts, all the mentions of God are referenced by the word “HE” or “HIS.” But, midway through the prayer, all references to God are on a more personal level with the words “YOU” and “YOUR.”

Thinking back through the years, I’ve noticed this same type of pattern in my own prayer life. As my prayer time has begun, I’ve talked to God on a distant level … like He was a God that’s FAR AWAY and IMPERSONAL. But, as my time of prayer continued to grow stronger, I began to speak to God on a more personal, intimate level.

Sometimes that’s just the way it goes. You start off praying in faith … you know it’s a discipline of your Christian walk that you need to observe regularly. You “make yourself” do it, sometimes. You push though the distractions and obstacles and start talking to God because you know how important it is. But, then something happens. As you engage in conversation with Him, your heart connects through the faith you used to initiate your prayer time. You step out of the natural order of things and in a few minutes, you’ve entered into another level of prayer and intimacy. Prayer went from being a “DISCIPLINE” to being an “INTIMATE CONVERSATION" ... a "LIFE LINE."

That’s what happens in Psalm 23 … that’s also what happens when the child of God pushes through during prayer time. It's like the Old Testament tabernacle ... pushing past the outer courts of the temple, straight into the Holy of Holies where God's presence dwelt.

Child of God, remember this. It’s not always flowery beds of ease when you enter into your prayer time. Sometimes you have to push through until you reach that intimate level where you’re not “praying into the air” but actually “conversing with the Master of the Universe.” PUSH THROUGH!

Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Repentance is deeper than guilt. It is more than feeling sorry, crying over what happened, or wishing you could go back and do things differently. True repentance is when conviction reaches your heart so deeply that it changes the direction of your life. It is when you stop asking God to bless the same patterns He has been trying to deliver you from. It is when you become willing to lay down the habits, relationships, attitudes, and choices that keep pulling you away from who He is calling you to become. Girl, conviction is not God trying to shame you. It is God loving you enough to correct you. It is His mercy showing you that there is still another way. You do not have to stay stuck in the version of yourself that made the mistake. You do not have to keep repeating what keeps breaking your spirit. Repentance says, “Lord, I see where I went wrong, and I do not want to keep living this way. Change my heart. Change my desires. Change my direction.” The evidence of repentance is not just in what you say after you fall. It is in what you choose the next time you are faced with the same temptation. It is in the boundaries you finally set. It is in the conversation you stop entertaining. It is in the pride you lay down. It is in the apology you finally give. It is in the discipline to walk away from what your flesh wants because your spirit knows better. The Bible says, “Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.” — Matthew 3:8 KJV. In other words, let your life show that your heart has changed. Let your decisions look different. Let your habits look different. Let your response look different. You do not have to be perfect, but you should be willing to be transformed. God is not asking you to live buried beneath yesterday’s mistakes. He is asking you to learn from them, turn from them, and let Him make something new out of you. Grace does not give us permission to stay the same. Grace gives us the strength to get back up, return to God, and walk differently than we did before. So if conviction has been heavy on your heart lately, do not run from it. Bring it to God. Let Him search you, correct you, heal you, and lead you. Repentance is not the end of your story. Sometimes it is the very place where your real transformation begins.

Feeling overwhelmed by "what-ifs" lately?
Worry is one of the biggest thieves of present energy. It keeps your mind spinning on scenarios you can’t control while draining the energy you need for today.
When you look at both faith and practical growth tools, they point to the exact same exit ramp:

1. Release what isn't yours to carry.
Scripture reminds us in Philippians 4:6-7 to hand over our anxieties through prayer instead of letting them consume us. Releasing control isn't giving up; it’s putting your trust where it actually belongs.

2. Focus on your Circle of Influence.
In coaching, we look at where your energy goes. Worrying about tomorrow doesn't change tomorrow—it just paralyzes today. Ask yourself: "What is ONE small action I can take right now?"

The Main Takeaway:
Faith handles the outcome; action handles the present.
Stop carrying tomorrow’s trouble today. Pray about what you can't control, take one positive step on what you can, and let peace take over
