Large boulder set in place as focal point of new Veterans Memorial Courtyard

Construction is continuing on the new Veterans Memorial Courtyard just inside the main entrance to Glenwood Cemetery.
Shoemaker's delivered this boulder, which was then carefully set in place on a six-feet deep concreate slab needed to support its 4,000-lb. weight.

Today is Michigan Cemetery Day! In 1915, the state legislature declared:

"The third Wednesday in August of each year is hereby designated as “cemetery day” and is set aside as a day upon which the people in townships may devote a portion of their time to the improvement of their cemeteries. The township boards shall direct the manner of making such improvements."
