St. Francis Prayer Center - Flint The St. Francis Prayer Center is an inter-faith community founded by Sr.

Joanne Chiaverini, IHM, who responded to a call based in the readings of the prophet Isaiah: “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” (Isaiah 56) Under the current direction of Director Debra Hawley we all work together to:
• Help people discover and develop their spirituality, whether through individual spiritual direction or through group retreats.
• Seek to promote justice,

particularly by: Affirming the self worth of our poor, Being a spiritual presence to them
• Establishing channels where their basic needs can be met, whether it is in the role of advocacy, referral or initiation.
• Seek to promote healing by offering spiritual direction and counseling services to individuals, couples, single parent families, struggling families, divorced, widowed and single persons.

St. Teresa of Jesus Jornet Ibars, born in Catalonia, Spain, faced early challenges but remained determined to pursue her religious calling. She began her career as a teacher in Lerida, yet her aspiration to join a convent was initially denied.

Rather than giving up, Teresa decided to create her own religious community. With the support of her spiritual mentor, she founded the Little Sisters of the Poor on January 27, 1872, in Barbastro, Spain.

This congregation, also known as the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Age, is dedicated to providing care and support to elderly individuals who have little or no financial resources.

Driven by her unwavering commitment, St. Teresa established more than fifty houses for her order during her lifetime.

Her remarkable dedication and impact were recognized when she was beatified in 1958 and later canonized in 1974 by Pope Paul VI.

St. Teresa stands as a shining example of love and service within the Catholic Church, inspiring countless others with her legacy.
