Our Sunday Service: June 7th
"The Mystery of Consciousness"
Dr. Mark Reimers
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
Dr. Reimers will be the guest speaker for this regularly scheduled Sunday service.
What do scientists know about consciousness?
It turns out that some aspects of recent scientific thinking mirror paradoxical Buddhist teachings; and that scientists are finding, in some sense, our consciousness is both inside and outside our heads.
Come join us for discussion of this topic, music and social hour following the service.

Our Sunday Service: May 31st
"You Are Here!"
Co-ministers, Jerry & Lynn Kerr
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
Perhaps you were lost one day… maybe in a forest that looked safe and easy, until the sun got low. You figured you would probably be fine, (“they’ll find us in the morning honey”). But you know it doesn’t take very long to die of thirst, and poisonous snakes are rare but real! You feel frustrated and foolish and you have to p*e too! But hallelujah…you come upon a kiosk map with its little arrow that says: “You are here.” Never mind that you learn you are headed into the fire swamp. You are just so relieved to know where in the hell you are, relative to your car!
On their final Sunday at the UUCF, Lynn and Jerry will do their best to assess where we all are…in our time, and in the play that is our life.
Fire swamp or not, it feels good to know where you are.

Our Sunday Service: May 17th
"Like Waldo Said…NATURE!"
Co-minister, Jerry Kerr
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
It’s amazing. We know without a doubt that planting trees in cities decreases the crime rate. We also know that a 20-minute walk in the woods is the best medicine money can’t buy. And finally, we know it is amazing that Ralph Waldo Emerson predicted all of this 190 years ago in his revolutionary essay, “Nature.”
Join us this week as we wonder out loud…how did Emerson know?

"The Many Spirits of Mother’s Day"
Rev. Lynn & The UUCF Reader’s Troupe
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
Go figure…the big bang that birthed the universe was itself an act of motherhood.
Can you imagine her complaints: ”Oh the cosmogonic labor pains I tell you! It was 13.8 billion years ago and I still remember them!” And then there was your own mom who had a fentanyl-laced cesarean delivery but had similar labor pains while tearfully getting you onto your first school bus.
Join us this week as Rev. Lynn and the UUCF Reader’s Troupe present every imaginable side of motherhood and make us right again with the many spirits of Mother’s Day.
Please note: If you had a terrible mother, this service is for you too!

"We...The Promise-making, Promise-breaking, Promise-renewing Creatures"
Co-minister, Lynn Kerr
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
Covenants! You can't live with them and you can't live without them. They are born when we ask ourselves “who am I?” and then go deeper to ask, “to whom am I accountable”? (Yes, having a conscience isn't easy).
We answer this question with the promises we recite to one another every week...and the promises are called a "covenant."
Join us this week as we explore why we humans need to suffer and enjoy the making, and keeping of our covenant.

Co-minister, Jerry Kerr

Summary:
When the war is over, people often reconsider the wisdom of their religion... because it was of so little help! Seventeen million people died in World War I and the citizens of Prague, Czechoslovakia turned to the Unitarian church for answers.
Join us this week for our flower ceremony first celebrated by the Prague Unitarians between the two world wars. May its wisdom serve us in our own troubled times.
If you can, please bring a few flowers to share

during our ceremony!

Our Sunday Service: April 19th
"A Michigan Left"
Rev. Joseph M. Cherry
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
A missed turn. An unexpected road. A new horizon.
Join us as we welcome the Rev. Joe Cherry, candidate for settled ministry, for a reflection on returning home…almost. On the ways we are formed by the places we come from, the shared understandings that make sense to some and not to others, and how both we and those places are changed by time.
Together, we’ll consider what it means to find our way forward, not by going back, but by choosing what comes next.

"Metamorphosis - Seasons of Change"
Rev. Leonetta Bugleisi
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
The Rev. Leonetta unfolds the perfect maxim for spring from Greek philosopher Heraclitus: "Change is the only constant in life".
Together we will reflect and apply steps needed to experience our seasons of metamorphosis with confidence and enthusiasm.
Pop quiz: What do a tadpole, a daffodil and a pine cone have in common? Answer provided April 12th.

Our Sunday Service: April 5th
"Bright Eyed & Bushy Tailed: An Easter Frame of Mind"
Co-ministers, Jerry & Lynn Kerr
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKJ5coG_CNyLZb6T3jhnRMg

Summary:
Why would agnostics, atheists and many so-called “non-religious” people… hang on to Easter?
Well, it turns out we can’t help ourselves. Like the budding trees, we unconsciously (even neuro-chemically!) become more bright-eyed and bushy tailed when spring is in the air.
Join us this week as we cultivate an Easter frame of mind.
