MORNING MANNA MEDITATION
Psalm 103:13 -- “Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him." (New American)
Too often, many embrace a strong fear of other people rather than fearing God. We generally have a desire to be accepted and are afraid of being judged or criticized for our beliefs, which creates anxiety about uncertain consequences for having a different perspective. Truly, this world is filled with people who are judgmental, lack empathy, and look for any reason to punish others. Sometimes those frightful characteristics are falsely transferred onto God. A proper perspective of God means understanding that “Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him." God cares for our pain, loneliness, emptiness, abandonment, and mistreatment. God cares for us when we are overlooked, neglected, minimized, and pushed aside. God loves us and longs to share his compassion with us. He chose to enter our world and demonstrate his love for us in Jesus. Fearing God is not about being afraid of His punishment, but a holy reverence for His authority that produces wisdom, humility, obedience, and spiritual maturity. Embracing this awareness shapes the way we think, live, worship, and relate to others. We have a good, good Father. Don’t run from Him. Run to Him and be loved.
