📖 New Sermon Series Alert! 📖

This week, we officially said goodbye to the book of Amos and kicked off an incredible, 20-week journey through the Gospel of John! Pastor Dan started us off right at the very beginning of the story, diving into the profound truths of John 1:1-5.

If you missed Sunday's message, "Unstoppable Light," or just want to listen again and reflect, the full audio is now live on our website!

🌟 Key Takeaways from Sunday:

Stop Domesticating Jesus: It is so easy to create a version of Jesus in our own minds that matches our exact biases, politics, and preferences. But the real Jesus is the transcendent, untamable Creator of the universe who lovingly disrupts our comfort zones.

The Unstoppable Light: We look around our world and see a lot of messy darkness—from economic anxieties to physical pain and grief. But John reminds us that the light of Christ is active, ongoing, and completely permanent. The darkness tried to extinguish it at the cross, but it failed completely. The light wins!

💬 This Week's Challenge: Take an honest look at your picture of Jesus this week. Are you trying to keep Him on a leash, or are you worshiping Him as the all-powerful God of the universe? If you are walking through a dark or heavy season right now, don't carry it alone—bring it to the body of Christ so we can hold you up and speak life into your season.

🦁 From a Roaring Lion to a Loving Smile: Wrapping Up the Book of Amos 🌾

If you’ve been following along with us through the Old Testament book of Amos, you know it hasn't always been an easy journey. Amos is famous for its intense, tough-love messages. From chapter one, we see a holy God dropping a plumb line, calling out systemic injustice, and warning that the nation will be sifted.

But as we reached the final verses this past Sunday, we discovered that the story doesn't end in exile—it ends in breathtaking restoration.

In this week's sermon, we look at what happens when God applies His radical grace to a deeply broken society. Drawing a powerful parallel to modern history—specifically South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission led by Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu—we explore how true, biblical justice doesn't just flip a power structure. It seeks to completely heal, rebuild, and restore.

Key Takeaways from the Message:
🔹 Mansion vs. Tent: Why God looks past our outward appearances to rebuild the "fallen shelters" of our hearts.
🔹 Radical Inclusion: How God's plan for restoration features our historic enemies standing right alongside us in grace.
🔹 Our Partnership: Our calling to carry internal righteousness out into the world to practice real, tangible justice.

✨ This Week's Challenge: When you pray this week, take a moment to close your eyes and picture God looking at you. If you imagine anything other than a joyful, loving smile, hit the reset button. Because of Christ, you are a deeply loved child of God. He isn't rolling His eyes at you—He is smiling in grace.

🌋 Enormous hailstones, boiling heat, and... frogs? 🐸

Let’s be honest: when we read Revelation 16, it can feel more like nightmare material than a cheery afternoon study. To our modern sensibilities, talking about the wrath and judgment of God makes us incredibly uncomfortable.

But what if we’ve been looking at it all wrong? 🤔

In this week's episode of Beyond Sunday School, we unpack the seven bowls of judgment and completely reframe how we view God's wrath:

💥 It’s not a temper tantrum: God isn’t like the Incredible Hulk, capriciously snapping out of nowhere. His wrath is slow, measured, and comes after an immense amount of grace and patience.
🔥 Purification over punishment: The ultimate goal of God's wrath isn’t just to inflict pain. It is to purify His beautiful world, rid it of oppressive, evil systems, and make things holy.
👀 Beware the "frogs": We dive into the strange symbol of the frogs and discuss how the deceptive ideas, propaganda, and "isms" of our modern world try to capture our hearts and minds today.

True love demands justice—it demands that the brokenness of our world finally be set right.

Grab your Bible, bring your holy imagination, and join us as we maintain our interpretive framework and discover what it truly means to live "awake" and in step with the Spirit. 🎧👇

🌍 Why would the nations worship when God’s judgment is revealed? When we think of judgment, our minds often jump to terrifying images of punishment and "fire and brimstone". But in Revelation 15, the nations actually celebrate it! Why?

Drawing from a great analogy by theologian N.T. Wright, think of a small town waiting for a circuit judge to arrive. The townspeople don't hide in fear; they rejoice because the judge is going to right the wrongs, hold the dishonest accountable, and bring true justice back to the community.

That is what biblical judgment is all about: God finally mending our broken world, defeating evil, and setting everything right.

In this week's episode of Beyond Sunday School, we are diving into Revelation 15. We talk about:

Living in the strange tension of the "already but not yet".

Moving past pop-culture imagery of heaven (no chubby babies on clouds here!).

How Jesus permanently short-circuits the shift from healthy guilt to identity-crushing shame.

Grab your Bible, catch up on the discussion, and find encouragement to persevere in a messy world.

📐 Are you living a life "in plumb"? If you missed this past Sunday’s sermon, you missed a powerful look at the Old Testament book of Amos (chapters 7–9). It might sound surprising, but a message filled with visions of locusts, fires, and a builder's plumb line actually shows us a beautiful picture of God's radical grace!

The prophet Amos shows us what happens when our lives drift just a few degrees out of alignment with God's promises. Just like a bad golf swing, a tiny mistake at the beginning can land us deep in the wilderness down the road.

But the good news of the Gospel is that God’s heart always begins and ends with grace. Through seasons of sifting and shaking, the Holy Spirit is gently and lovingly at work to pull us back into alignment with Him.

Take some time this week to listen, reflect, and do some soul work. You can catch the full audio of the sermon on our website now!

Selective Vision or Christ-like Compassion? 🚌💔

In this week’s message, we’re challenged by a memory of a bus ride in Jamaica: on the left side, beautiful luxury resorts; on the right side, heartbreaking poverty. It’s easy to keep our eyes fixed on the "left side" of life to protect our comfort, but Amos 6 warns us that when we ignore the "right side," our empathy begins to die.

Amos calls out "arrogant complacency"—the kind that numbs itself with comforts while ignoring the ruin around us. As followers of Jesus, we are called to a different path:

Look out the window: Acknowledge the hardship and brokenness in our own communities.

Practice Empathy: Follow the example of Jesus, who wept in solidarity with his friends even when He knew a miracle was coming.

Move into Action: Let the love of Christ move us to walk alongside those who are hurting.

Are we using "lotions and wine" to numb ourselves to the world’s needs, or are we ready to be the hands and feet of Jesus?.

This Sunday we continued our journey through the book of Amos — and chapter 5 pulls no punches.

Amos shows up singing a funeral for people who are still very much alive. The economy is good. The religious life is full. And God says: I hate your festivals. I despise your assemblies.

Why? Because worship without justice is just noise.

"Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream." — Amos 5:24
