Leah Koenig led us in a discussion of the cultural connection between Jewish and Chinese immigrant communities, how Chinese restaurants became welcoming spaces for Jewish diners, and how this relationship became a lasting American tradition.

Leah Koenig taught us how foods like pastrami, hot dogs, and kosher pickles became central to American Jewish life. We discussed the distinction between the delicatessen and its often-confused cousin, the appetizing shop (home to lox, smoked fish and bagels), and how both traditions continue today. We hope you will join us on Friday, May 29th, for our special Shabbat Family Service.

Rabbi Forman and Cantor Jeff Warschauer will be using our family-friendly prayer book, Gates of Prayer for Young People, and students from our Religious School will help lead portions of the service.

With Mike Likier on the cajón and plenty of egg shakers, it promises to be a lively and musical evening. We’ll sing together, celebrate Shabbat as a community, and enjoy a spirited and engaging service for all ages.

6:00 PM – Pizza Dinner
6:30 PM – Family Service
7:15 PM – Celebratory Oneg
