Congregation Lev Shalom joins the Union of Reform Judaism and the Central Conference of American Rabbis in condemning the violence targeting immigrants, refugees, protestors, and witnesses taking place in Minneapolis and across the country. We denounce the escalation of anti-immigrant rhetoric and unlawful policies emerging from the current presidential administration’s operation of ICE. Our Jewish values teach us to welcome the stranger, as noted throughout the Torah: “The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love them as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt" (Leviticus 19:33-34). We stand in solidarity with our neighbors and honor the rich contributions of immigrants to our country.
