If you've been keeping up with sermons this month (if you haven't, start at 12/28/25 on Calvary Bible Church Spotify), you know we are in the process of proposing a name change for Calvary Bible. Here are some reasons why Evergreen Church has been proposed:
There is rich biblical symbolism in the evergreen tree. Evergreens remain alive and green in every season- through droughts, winters, storms, and heat. They are a picture of the spiritual life God invites us into.
Evergreens are a symbol of being alive:
Jeremiah 17 says the person who trusts in the Lord is like a tree that never withers, even in hardship. That's the kind of people we want to be-rooted, steady, alive in Christ.
Evergreens are a symbol of growth:
Evergreen forests have this beautiful design where mature trees shelter younger saplings so they can flourish. That's a picture of a multigenerational church-mentoring, pouring into others, and building community.
Evergreens are a symbol of Life-Giving:
Evergreens provide oxygen and shelter year-round. We want to be a life-giving church for our community-through joy, compassion, freedom in Christ, and the hope of the gospel.
Evergreen also communicates timelessness-something enduring and fresh, pointing us toward God's unwavering faithfulness and the ongoing journey of spiritual growth: to "know and grow."
This name also connects deeply with the place God has planted us. We are surrounded by towering ponderosa pines, evergreens that stand tall through all seasons. Our physical environment reflects the spiritual identity we long to embody.
Scripture often uses trees as imagery for spiritual life, hope, and God's wisdom. The Bible begins in a garden filled with life-giving trees and ends in a city where the Tree of Life once again stands at the center, bearing fruit in every season. What was lost through sin is restored through Christ.
The whole biblical story points toward God's desire to re-root humanity in Himself, to restore us to a life that is fruitful, enduring, and whole.
We believe Evergreen Church tells a clearer story about who we are, who we want to become, and the mission God has given us in this community.
