Deers and Stags were very often depicted on pysanky (painted eggs).
The story of the stag is that he carries the sun out every morning from underground into the heavens upon his antlers. The sun is considered his 'heavenly gift', so he represents being charitable and farming, trade, and the development of skills. The stag carries the sun back toward the land of the dead (probably Nav) in the evening, which eventually morphed into the belief that he also carried the souls of the dead, like a psychopomp rather than a Helios figure.

As I slept last night, between 10pm and 2am, I experienced one of the most profound and memorably vivid dreams I have ever experienced.

I was facing another figure at a distance too far to cover in three sides, and just out of vision in that blurry quality that dreams possess. We were both breathing rapidly, panting deeply with eyes locked through the haze.

I understood we had been engaged recently in single and mortal combat of some type, and that we were at an impasse for a brief moment as to how to advance our re-engagement, when a third figure entered from out of sight and held council with my adversary.

Immediately I felt the full and complete sense of knowing that not only was my death fated and unavoidable, but that it was integral to the very continuance of some imminently greater cause. That it must occur.

I was instantly relieved of all tenseness, all fear, all anger. I signaled to both figures that that was so by giving them two thumbs up, before turning slightly, and releasing my gaze without closing my eyes. On the periphery of my perception I saw the newly appeared figure advance rapidly, raising his blade.

Two thoughts occurred to my dream self at that moment istantaneously but not simultaneously. The first, would death feel like pain? Then, would I retain any conscious awareness after the blow was struck?

The answers to those two questions were answered by death the same way life answers many of our questions, in reverse order.

Of course because it was a dream, (not to steal from my executioner any talent or skill at his task, for I judged it a clean an honorable death on all sides at it's conclusion), I felt first my head bump the floor, but as pressure, of pain I no longer had comprehension.

The only feeling that occurred as my vision receded from three edges and waned to black was of a sinking, fading warmth that receded into the center of my being, and of complete peace and stillness of what we call mind.

In retelling this dream to my wife only a few hours after, I did not know who the other figures were. As in the recounting, they were told to her as unknown adversaries. In fact... When I refer to anything within this dream experience in the first person that is only to frame the narrative. I understood in the dream, and on recounting that it was not me in the dream. That is to say, not even an avatar of me. Just that my awareness was present within that of the other on that level.

Through retelling, and the process of writing it out in this post I believe I received answers to as many questions as I did new questions for which I will now start to search for answers... I believe I know the identities of all three figures for example...But I will share those answers I feel I did receive... And the observations that have brought me a new level of understanding of self, death, and being at a later time.

If you read this, thank you. It is factual and unembellished. I hope it sparks in you something. 🙏🏼💙
