Today, we join millions around the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton.

From everyone at The Salvation Army, thank you, Dolly, for the love, kindness and generosity you shared with so many throughout your life. Your connection to The Salvation Army began when you were just 18 years old, serving meals to others during a Christmas when you, too, needed comfort and community.

Years later, you continued that spirit of service by giving generously, supporting families in need and helping launch our Red Kettle Campaign with an unforgettable performance.

Your deep faith was reflected in the way you lived: by loving others, serving others and reminding us that every person matters.

We are profoundly grateful for the ways you shared your heart with The Salvation Army and the people we serve. Your legacy of generosity will continue to inspire us for generations to come.

Thank you, Dolly. We pray for comfort and peace for your family, friends and all those whose lives you touched.

It was a great day serving in Lunenburg at the annual Touch-the-Truck event! Wonderful to be alongside other emergency management partners such as Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Lunenburg Police Department, Lunenburg Fire Rescue, American Red Cross of Massachusetts, and other local businesses.

Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Roy was a good friend to The Salvation Army. His sudden passing leaves a huge loss in our community. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and partners at the Fitchburg Fire Department during this difficult time. We worked closely with Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Roy on many of The Salvation Army Disaster Services, Massachusetts Division local responses. He became a dear friend to many of us and he will be missed.

We were devastated to learn that Fitchburg Fire Department and Ashby Fire Department Deputy Chief Patrick "PJ" Roy passed away. Among all his other strengths, PJ was a passionate advocate for firefighter cancer prevention and early detection. He was an instrumental figure in the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy's cancer program and taught hundreds of awareness courses to new and veteran firefighters through the years. In 2019, he was honored at the Firefighter of the Year Awards for his immense contributions to this cause. Our hearts are with the Roy family, his brothers and sisters at Fitchburg FD and the MFA, and all who knew and loved him.
