Rombout Rural Cemetery

Rombout Rural Cemetery A historic cemetery with affordable grave plots for sale. Reach out for more information! In the 1770s, the Continental Army used the church as a hospital.

Incorporated in 1885, the Rombout Rural Cemetery is the final resting place of hundreds of Fishkill and Dutchess County residents. The site's history date's back to the 1740s when the First Presbyterian Church of Fishkill stood in its center. The soldiers damaged the site so badly that it was rebuilt after the war. A fire of an unknown cause destroyed the second church in 1866.

Thank you! to The Verplanck Garden Club and the Town of Fishkill Highway Department for jointly installing a Roots of Liberty garden at the Rombout Rural Cemetery today!
The garden is one of eight to be planted around Fishkill to honor our nation's semiquincentennial.

We are grateful to be part of Roots of Liberty! We will post photos of this wonderful project as it takes form at the cemetery.

Introducing... ROOTS Of LIBERTY 🇺🇸 🌷

Something very special is beginning to take root in our community.

As we approach the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, the Roots of Liberty project is bringing history to life across Fishkill and Beacon through a series of commemorative gardens at significant Revolutionary-era sites.

Each garden will feature thoughtfully selected red, white, and blue plantings, along with striking metal silhouette statues of Colonial soldiers—honoring those who lived, served, and sacrificed in our region.

This project is being brought to life through the dedication of the Verplanck Garden Club, along with the support of local volunteers, community partners, and the Town of Fishkill.

As Roots of Liberty continues to take shape, it is made possible through the generosity and support of the community, and we will be sharing ways for those who wish to help bring this vision fully to life.
