Word of the Month. 12/31/22
Giving
Good morning ladies & gentlemen, girls & boys, sisters & brothers.
Several years ago now, I believe I was inspired by God, just as when He breathed the breath of life into Adam’s nostrils, I believe He breathed the idea of Word of the Month into me. As I was reading the Bible, I couldn’t get past how much repetition is in the Bible. Then, as I was pondering the question of why, I started to wonder how many people would stick with a church where the pastor was as repetitious as Moses. It seems every time he spoke, he ran down the genealogy of the Hebrew people. How many of us would be secretly thinking, “alright already Moses, we’ve got it!”
I believe God inspired Moses to be repetitive, not only so that the Hebrews would “get it,” but also, so that those who would be reading these messages, thousands of years later, would “get it!” He wants us to “Get The Message!”
There are many messages that God wants to Communicate, but as we’ve recently witnessed, His primary message has been that He so Loves us that He Gave His one and only begotten Son, to pay the complete penalty for all sin. And whoever chooses to simply Believe that, and ceases their own efforts to earn their way to heaven, will be with God forever!
Without repetition, the average person doesn’t “get the message.” I believe God wants His messages to become a part of who we are, rather than just more information that we can regurgitate at bible study.
Do to the enormous overhead, (mortgages, salaries, utilities, etc…) of the typical church, the pastor is challenged with not only taking care of all the pastoral duties,
but they need to keep the congregation “entertained” enough to stay and keep Giving their tithe. Fear of people leaving can dissuade a pastor from being too repetitive. Because we humans are “path of least resistance creatures,” we typically don’t want to endure repetition. “We don’t want to hear about Faith again pastor; you spoke about that last week!”
Word of the Month is not a bible Study. It is simply meant to keep a single topic before us for a whole month in hopes that, as we meditate on it, The Holy Spirit will bring revelation, and it will become more a part of who we are. I’m hoping as we wind up 2022 that we all have taken steps toward becoming the people that God paid such a dear price for us to be, and that we can say that we Know Him better as a result of focusing on Him this past year.
May The Lord bless each of us as we step into a new year! Let’s make 2023 be the year that we “Be all that we can be!”
As in years past, Lisa and I will be taking a sabbatical from Word of the Month for the month of January to become refreshed and to prepare for the new year. I Pray you each continue to pursue your Relationship with God and that you choose a key ingredient to focus on in January on your own.
Should you find yourself in need of pastoral care please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Finally, I got a new phone with a new number and email address. I will reach out to each of you with my new number so you’ll know it’s me, and should you choose to subscribe to Word of the Month again next year, you’ll be ready to receive.
I Love each of you and continue to Pray for you.
Lord bless
