General Assembly 2026 is only four months away and the Ware Lecturer has been announced. Check out the website for lots more information about what this year will look like!

The Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde—an Episcopal bishop and the first woman elected to serve as Bishop of Washington, D.C.—has been announced as the 2026 Ware Lecturer at Unitarian Universalist Association General Assembly.

Budde gained national attention in 2025 when, during a prayer service at Washington National Cathedral, she asked President Trump to have mercy on transgender children and immigrant families—reminding the nation that “the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals” and calling people of faith to courage and compassion.

She has continued that public witness, joining multifaith clergy in Minneapolis earlier this year to protest violence targeting immigrant communities.

The Ware Lecture will take place Saturday, June 20 at 8 p.m. EDT as part of GA 2026: Meet the Moment—Together Everywhere.

Today, UUA President Rev. Sofía Betancourt, PhD was arrested in Washington, D.C., alongside other people of faith while protesting the Department of Homeland Security budget.

Rev. Betancourt joined religious leaders at the U.S. Capitol Complex to oppose a budget that continues to fund ICE and Customs and Border Protection—agencies responsible for ongoing harm and violence in our communities. As she said earlier today, there is no moral justification for a budget that deepens this damage.

This is a developing story. Read more about today’s action and Rev. Betancourt’s remarks—link to the article in the comments.

I am so grateful for the truly excellent work of UUA staff in developing programming and resources to nurture care and connection among our Trans beloveds. As we honor and uplift our vibrant Trans community during this week of Trans Awareness, and we prepare to commemorate Trans lives lost on Trans Day of Remembrance, it is good to have many ways to connect.

The Woodlands is a new, all-ages online pastoral care program for Trans people, their families, and caregivers. With monthly gatherings centered on a theme with worship, and small group connection, the next online gathering will be on Sunday, December 7 at 4pm ET/1pm PT.

Please share this offering with your congregation, family, friends, and community so that those who need this supportive space may access it. As we care for one another in community, we connect to the goodness in us all, and move forward in the work of building a world where all people are safe, valued, and can thrive.
