Organized in 1931 through the leadership of Pastor John H. Reents the congregation of American Lutheran Church (ALC) originally conducted services in the former Filley Christian Church building. In 1941 for a sum of $300 including the church edifice and furnishings, it was purchased from the community. In 1947, additional ground was purchased for $175 nad the former Army Air Chapel at Bruning, NE
was moved by dismantling and reassembling in Filley for a cost of $2,296.00 It was dedicated in December 21, 1947. On January 25, 1959 a new parsonage constructed for a cost of $13,470.45 and dedicated. On July 9, 1967, ground was broken for a new Fellowship Hall and Kitchen. On September 4, 1975, the church was struck by lightening and burned to the ground. The Fellowship Hall was smoke and water damaged but saved. On March 28, 1976 ground was broken for the new church. On January 1, 1988 ALC became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The congregation continues as a cornerstone of the community, building upon its rich history of service to neighbors both locally and globally.
