Oops, an update on the name change of Saul to Paul!

Greg Lanier exposes as false the popular notion that Jesus changed Saul's name to Paul.

"It is not atheism I fear so much in the present times as pantheism. It is not the system which says nothing is true, so much as the system which says everything is true. It is the system which is so liberal that it dares not say anything is false. It is the system which is so charitable that it will allow everything to be true. It is the system which is so scrupulous about the feelings of others that we are never to say they are wrong. What is it all but a sacrificing of truth on the altar of a caricature of charity? Beware of it if you believe the Bible."

~ J. C. Ryle 1816-1900

Ministry Minute with Pastor Kistler

Acts 9:4-5a, Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”

Saul, an angry Pharisee, had his world turned upside-down when a bright vision from Heaven blinded him. Saul believed he was fighting to protect God from the heretic Christian sect, but the heavenly voice claims to be Jesus, really alive, just as Stephen and the apostles had claimed! This news changes everything, including Saul's angry heart. Saul is transformed by the Holy Spirit almost instantaneously, as his crusade of persecution comes to a sudden halt.

For the November 23 morning service at 11 a.m., our text will be Acts 8:36-40. Philip the deacon is sent by the Holy Spirit to help an Ethiopian official who is reading Isaiah 53 about the Suffering Servant the Messiah. The eu**ch believes in Jesus and asks to be baptized when they see water off the desert road.

Philip the Deacon was sent by the Holy Spirit to meet an African eu**ch heading home from Jerusalem, who was reading Isaiah 53 in his chariot. The man asked for help under-standing it, and Philip used Old Testament passages to show how Jesus fulfilled the promises of a Savior, Messiah, Christ and King. Isaiah was an especially meaningful place to start because God promised to bring all nations to Himself, and that even eu**chs would have a place like sons in God's Kingdom (chapter 56).

For the November 16 morning service at 11 a.m., our text will be Acts 8:32-35. Philip the deacon is sent by the Holy Spirit to help an Ethiopian official on a dusty road near Jerusalem. He is reading from Isaiah 53. Philip will start there and show the man the promise of the Messiah throughout the Old Testament and how Jesus is that Christ and Messiah.

In the evening service at 5:30 p.m., we will start looking at the church at Pergamos from Revelation 2:12-13. Jesus praises this church for living faithfully even in danger in this city where Satan is very active. We will consider the presence of the Devil in our world today.

The Pergamon Altar (Ancient Greek: Βωμός τῆς Περγάμου) was a monumental construction built during the reign of the Ancient Greek King Eumenes II of the Pergamon Empire in the first half of the 2nd century BC on one of the terraces of the acropolis of Pergamon in Asia Minor (modern-d...

Acts 8:30-31, “So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.

Philip the Deacon was told by an angel to head south on a road, but not why. Soon he found an African government official in a chariot journeying home from Jerusalem, reading from the Old Testament, but not understanding it. The Holy Spirit had providentially sent a Christian to explain the Bible to this Ethiopian eu**ch, and prepared the man ahead of time. God brings us opportunities to witness for Christ's name and we should be prepared to speak when people have questions and needs.
