Friday, May 29, 10am -noon - Yarn Twisters meet every other Friday. Do you knit or crochet? Join in the fun of getting together for creative projects and great fellowship. On Friday, May 15, Deb R, Barb P, Casey M, and Sandy S delivered 11 red, white and blue blankets for veterans in hospice care, 5 shawls and 12 lap blankets to Community Hospice of the Capital Region. We then enjoyed lunch and fellowship together (unfortunately Linda and Gina couldn’t make it). In June, we will be delivering items to Ronald McDonald House, Capital City Rescue Mission Women’s Shelter, and animal shelters in the area. We would love to have more people join us on Fridays, and if you have an idea for projects and/or groups that could use hand-made items, please let us know!

CHILDRENS MESSAGE
CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
We confess, our God, even as believers, to disbelieving the fullness of your good news. We affirm the holiness of your way, but don’t fully lean into the wholeness of it. We celebrate your story, but don’t rely on it enough to risk living it. We say our prayers, but count our money. We know the stories and we sing the hymns, but we won’t risk trusting the implications of those stories and songs at the workplace or at the gym or at home. Blow away our half-heartedness, God. Breathe into us and fill our hearts with hope and possibility and commitment. We can’t do it breathing for ourselves. Breathe in us, we pray. Amen.
(Silent contemplation.)
KYRIE ELEISON
Lord, have mercy upon us; Christ, have mercy upon us;
Lord, have mercy upon us.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
God, our light and our salvation does not forsake us or leave us with our sin. Brothers and sisters in Christ we are forgiven and offered the gift of healing repentance.
Response: THANKS BE TO GOD. AMEN.
THE LAW OF GOD
As Paul wrote to the Ephesian Christians: be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, 2and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Eph 4:32-5:2
*GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, Amen.
*HYMN Just a Closer Walk with Thee #591
THE WORD OF GOD
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Holy God, enlighten us by your Holy Spirit, and reveal yourself to us,
that we may hear your word and proclaim your good news in the world. Amen.
SCRIPTURE
Old Testament: Genesis 11:1-9
11Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. 2And as they migrated from the east, they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. 4Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”
5The Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which mortals had built. 6And the Lord said, “Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. 7Come, let us go down, and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” 8So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. 9Therefore it was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth
New Testament: Acts 2:1-21
2When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
5 Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. 7Amazed and astonished, they asked, ‘Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? 9Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.’ 12All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, ‘What does this mean?’ 13But others sneered and said, ‘They are filled with new wine.’
Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: ‘Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. 16No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
17“In the last days it will be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.
18Even upon my slaves, both men and women,
in those days I will pour out my Spirit;
and they shall prophesy.
19And I will show portents in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and smoky mist.
20The sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day.
21Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord
People: Thanks be to God!
SERMON The Day of Pentecost
OUR RESPONSE TO GOD
OFFERTORY
*DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen
*DEDICATION OF GIFTS
As a community of faithful people, you have bestowed on us unimaginable riches and made us stewards of it all. You have placed your trust in us, O Lord of heaven and earth, and for this we are grateful. Help us manage this sacred trust; remind us that all creation belongs to you, and that you have offered it to us to use for a while. As we return today a portion of what is yours, bless both those who give and those who receive in Jesus’ name. Amen.
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, and He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

( #523 v.1&2 and chorus)
God be with you ‘til we meet again
By His counsel’s guide, uphold you,
With His sheep securely fold you
God be with you ‘til we meet again.
God be with you ‘til we meet again
‘Neath His wings protecting hide you
Daily manna still provide you
God be with you ‘til we meet again!
‘Til we meet, ‘til we meet
‘til we meet at Jesus’ feet
‘Til we meet, ‘til we meet
God be with you ‘til we meet again!
