MOUNT PILGRIM
FREE WILL BAPTIST CHURCH...
The church was organized in Mount Zion, Missouri in 191
9 & named Mount Zion Baptist Church. Deacons Frank & Sam Bingham, Ed Smith, Joe Casey, Oliver Tammons, Harry Cockrell, Matt Wansley, Bud Mitchell, Jerry Taylor, Hillard Smith & ministers Fred Bland & Charley Bland were among it’s first members. Listed on the mother’s board were Fannie Long, Amanda Barnes, Mary Gray, Kaline Gray, Mary Bingham, Jenni Mosby, Fannie Ross, Mollie Taylor, Henrietta Smith, Bell Jackson, Georgia Bills, & Nannie Gray. Pride, a minister from Kentucky came to Missouri & erected the Mount Pilgrim Free Will Baptist Church. Between 1920-1922 a lot was purchased on So. 4th. Street & a church was built. A block making machine was purchases to aid in the construction. Pride remained the pastor until approximately 1944, &/or until his health failed him; Rev. Pride passed away in Saint Louis, Missouri in 1947. There has been many pastors through out the years; many ups & many downs, but to God be the glory, Mount Pilgrim is still standing today; although in limbo & disrepair; Mount Pilgrim celebrated their 100th. year in March of 2019. Up until the churches closing in or around 2020, arms were
always open at Mount Pilgrim, to any one needing a church home. Anyone, young or old were always welcome to come worship & praise the Lord with us; the little white church on the hill, where “We Enter to Worship & we Leave to Serve.”
