John 14:13 – And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Believers have the privilege of praying “in Jesus’ name.” We pray to God the Father on the basis of Jesus’ Person and work - all that Jesus is and all that Jesus has done.
What does it mean to pray “in Jesus’ name”?
[1] To pray in Jesus’ name is to pray in accordance with all that His name stands for - the fact that Jesus is the divine Son of God Who died for our sins.
It means we are to pray prayers consistent with Jesus’ holy and righteous character.
[2] To pray in Jesus’ name is to pray to God the Father for what Jesus would want.
It means praying according to God’s will. When we pray in Jesus’ name, we are saying, “I ask this, Father, because it is what I believe that Jesus would want.”
[3] To pray in Jesus’ name means to seek only what would glorify God the Father.
It means praying that God’s plans and purposes will be accomplished for His ultimate glory.
Jesus was not encouraging His disciples to adopt a new formula but rather to appropriate a new concept in prayer.
There is no limit to the power and the potential that is available to us through prayer in Jesus’ name! Praying in Jesus’ name is the key to successful prayer! Amen!
Now, please do not misunderstand what I have just said.
When Jesus says that we can ask for “any thing,” we must remember that our asking is in His name - meaning, according to Jesus’ character and God’s will!
God will not answer prayers contrary to His nature. God will not answer prayers contrary to His Word. God will not answer prayers contrary to His will.
Prayer is simply calling in the name of Jesus, to a loving Father, who knows and understands and cares and answers. There is great power through prayer.

Hebrews 7:27 – Who (Jesus) needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

On the annual Day of Atonement, the high priest first had to offer a sacrifice for himself and for all of the other priests. This came first before he could offer the sacrifice for all the people of the nation of Israel.
There were also daily sacrifices, one each morning and once each afternoon, offered as a part of the temple worship ritual for the sins of the people. And, if an individual sinned, even a priest!, he had to bring a sacrifice for his own cleaning.
But Jesus Christ offered just one sacrifice, not for His sins, but for ours! And that sacrifice settled the matter forever!!
On Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifice of brave men and women. Why would they pay such a valuable price?
Because they were purchasing something far more valuable than life itself - freedom!
That is what sacrifice does. It gives up something valuable to gain something even more valuable.
In baseball, a batter will often bunt or try to intentionally hit a fly ball deep to the outfield to advance a runner already on base.
The player’s appearance at the plate goes down in the record books as a ‘sacrifice.’ He was more productive in giving up his chance to run the bases because he helped the team have a chance to score a run and win the game.
On Memorial Day, we remember those who gave their lives to purchase our freedom!
And never forget, Jesus Christ provided for all mankind the greatest sacrifice ever made!
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”(Ro5:8).
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”( Jn3:16).
Thank you, Lord, for salvation!!

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 – Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

This verse is called the Shema. This comes from the Hebrew word for ‘hear.’ The verse means that the Lord, Yahweh, is totally unique. He alone is God.
This gave the Israelites an important sense of security that was totally impossible for the other people who inhabited the land of Canaan.
Those people worshipped multiple gods. Each god was unpredictable. They rarely ever thought of their gods as acting in harmony together. The pagan worshipper could never be sure that his worship of one god would protect him against the wrath of another god.
The Israelites never faced this conflict. They worshiped the one true God. And God dealt with them by a revealed, consistent standard of righteousness.
Two primary truths formed the foundation for the Israelites' faith: (1) God is unique and real, unlike any and all other gods; and (2) God is unity. One in essence, one in harmony.
Moses reminded the Israelites to hear this truth on an on-going basis. They were to repeat this as a statement of their faith: "The Lord is our God. We acknowledge His presence, His uniqueness, His place, His right to rule over us. We seek His will. We desire to walk in His way."
Our love for God must be absolute and total. It must be unquestionable. There must be a fervency; an irrefutable confidence.
It is impossible to share our love for the Lord with others if we do not personally have a love for God that fills our whole being.
Our love for God must be an all-encompassing love, a deep-down dedication. We must love the Lord fervently!
This is where loving God with our "heart," and "soul," and "might" comes in. Do you realize what that means? Modeling the truth in our everyday lives!
Truth is more permanently transferred from our lives than it is from our lips!
We must never allow ourselves to degenerate into a "do as I say" mentality. We must live and model Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It is always "do as I do!" Follow my example!
That steady commitment will be a winning example for others and sure and certain way to bring glory to our Lord!!
