We kicked off our outdoor summer service this morning called, “Communion By-The-Sea.” Join us each Sunday from 8:00-8:30 a.m. out on the church lawn as we celebrate the Sacrament.

We even had an English Springer Spaniel join us. All are welcome! 🐾

*Summer Service at 8:00 a.m.*

We are excited to offer an additional service once again this summer! Starting on Sunday, join us on the front church lawn every Sunday in June, July, and August for "Communion By-The-Sea."

This service will include prayer, scripture reading, a sermon, and, of course, the Sacrament of Holy Communion. You can expect the service to be under 30 minutes.

Dog walkers and beach neighbors are always welcome!

**NOTE: This is an additional service we are adding; the 9:30 a.m. service in the sanctuary will remain the same.**

We are glad to be able to open the doors of the church for the town Memorial Day Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. this evening. All are welcome!

The Town of Fenwick Island warmly invites you to join us for our Memorial Day Ceremony on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 5:30 PM

This meaningful and patriotic evening brings our community together to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

This year, we are proud to welcome the Delmarva Leathernecks Foundation as our featured speakers. Several of their veteran members will share reflections and help us pay tribute to those who served with courage and honor.

Adding to the spirit of the evening, the chorus from Phillip C. Showell Elementary School will perform several patriotic songs, reminding us of the pride and gratitude we carry forward for future generations. The ceremony will also include a moving trumpet solo of “Taps,” a timeless tribute that honors the fallen with dignity and respect.

We encourage residents, families, and visitors to attend this special community gathering. Bring a chair, bring a friend, and join us as we come together in remembrance, reflection, gratitude and community.

The 242nd Session of the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference is this week. We are gathered with our Bishop, District Superintendents, and all clergy and lay delegates from each church in the conference.

Much of our time is spent in “Holy Conferencing” (voting on different resolutions as a conference), hearing ministry reports, a service of remembrance, a commissioning and ordination service, and a celebration of ministries service.

Along with Pastor Jake as our clergy representative, St. Matthew’s By-The-Sea has two lay delegates. Dave Edwards (Lay Leader) and Kelly Rymer (Church Council Chair).

This week is always a beautiful reminder of our connectional church as United Methodists.

The Staff-Parish Committee is pleased to share the hiring of Joanna Aydelotte as our new Music Director & Office Manager.

Joanna grew up in Montgomery County, where her passion for music began at just four years old when she started playing piano. Singing, performing, and the arts quickly became central to her life, leading her to earn a degree in Music Performance and Conducting with concentrations in opera and piano.

Joanna has served as a Music Director for several churches and schools, where she finds joy in sharing her love of music with others. Outside of music, she enjoys spending time in nature and on the water with her husband, Kevin, daughter, Liza, two stepsons, Landon and Blake, and her Australian Cattle Dog, “Badger”.

Joanna will begin the Music Director position on Sunday, May 17; she will begin the Office Manager position in June. Please join us in welcoming Joanna; we are confident that her joy, kindness, and welcoming presence will be a great addition to our church family!
