THE WAR WITHIN — FLESH VS. SPIRIT
Are we living according to the flesh or walking by the Spirit of God? That’s the question we were challenged to consider this Sunday at The River Church Delmarva!
As believers, we face a daily battle between our fleshly desires, and the divine nature God has placed within us. The good news is that we don’t have to let our flesh control us! Through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome and live the life God has called us to live.
Here are a few points from today’s message:
1. We must crucify our flesh daily. Our thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions should be led by the Spirit of God, not by our old sinful nature.
2. Keep your eyes on eternal things. The things of this world are temporary, but the things of God are eternal. We are in this world, but we are not of this world!
3. What you sow is what you reap. When we sow to the flesh, we reap corruption. When we sow to the Spirit, we reap everlasting life. Every day, we have a choice about what we allow to influence and govern our lives.
4. Let the fruit of the Spirit be evident in you! - Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control should be growing in our lives as we walk with God.
5. God isn't finished with you! Just as He restored Peter after his failures, God is gracious and merciful toward us. When we fall short, we can repent, receive His forgiveness, and keep growing in Him. He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it!

We don't overcome the flesh by our own strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us! We must choose daily to put our flesh under, feed our spirit, and allow Jesus to have first place in every area of our lives.
Let's move up higher! Don't let the things of this world pull you away from God's best. Set your mind on things above, walk by faith, and let the Spirit of God live BIG on the inside of you!
This week, ask yourself - What am I sowing into my life? And am I allowing the Holy Spirit to lead me?
