Gethsemane Cemetery

Gethsemane Cemetery The Catholic cemetery is the final resting place for the members of our Faith Community on our Journey.

Gethsemane Cemetery was developed in the early 1970s and was officially dedicated by Archbishop Thomas Connolly, Archbishop of Seattle, in May 1975 to serve the Catholic faith community of South King and North Pierce Counties. The property was originally purchased in 1888 for use as a Catholic Indian Mission School. When the school closed, the property was deeded to the Diocese (now Archdiocese) o

On this Administrative Professionals Day, we give heartfelt thanks for Lisa Lewis and Penny Pislaan, our compassionate Office Assistants at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery.

Lisa and Penny are the steady hands and compassionate hearts behind the scenes—keeping our office organized, our records precise, and our ministry moving with grace. But their contributions go far beyond paperwork. They support families during their most vulnerable moments, help coordinate committal services, maintain memorial stone records, and assist with sacristan duties in our chapel.

Their warmth, reliability, and deep sense of service embody what it means to be part of a Catholic ministry of care and remembrance.

Thank you, Lisa and Penny, for your unwavering commitment to the mission of Gethsemane. We are so blessed to have you on our team.

✝️ A Shepherd Returns Home

With heavy hearts, we remember Pope Francis, who passed away this morning.

His papacy called us to mercy, ecological stewardship, and deep care for the poor and forgotten. From the peripheries to the heart of the Church, his voice echoed the Gospel of Christ.

As we continue our sacred work at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery—walking with families in grief and hope—we entrust his soul to God’s eternal embrace.

Requiescat in pace, Holy Father.

Today, on Good Friday, we unite our hearts with Christ at the foot of the Cross. Gethsemane is a place of sorrow, yes—but also one of promise. As we recall His agony and death, we hold close the hope of the Resurrection that gives meaning to every grave, every prayer, every tear.

‘It is finished.’ – John 19:30

Our first-ever Día de los Mu***os celebration at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery was truly memorable. The evening began with Father Vincent Pastro blessing the beautifully adorned Ofrenda, a sacred space filled with offerings in honor of our departed loved ones. Following the blessing, we processed together to the chapel for a moving Mass.

Afterward, we gathered for a delicious dinner provided by El Gran Taco, sharing stories and fellowship. The evening continued with wreath-making and decorating luminary bags, which were later placed on the graves of our loved ones, lighting up the cemetery with warmth and remembrance.

It was a beautiful night of prayer, reflection, and community. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event so special. Stay tuned for more photos in the coming days!

🌿 Today we honor St. Callistus I, the Patron Saint of Cemetery Workers 🌿

As cemetery workers, we are entrusted with the sacred duty of caring for the final resting places of loved ones. On this feast day of St. Callistus, we seek his guidance and intercession. Born into slavery, he rose to become the Pope and established some of the first Christian cemeteries in Rome, where the faithful could be buried with dignity.

We ask St. Callistus to watch over and protect all of our staff at Associated Catholic Cemeteries. May he bless the hands of all who serve in this holy ministry, granting them strength, compassion, and grace in their daily work. 🙏

St. Callistus, pray for us. ✝️

This evening, we are blessed to celebrate the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery with a special Mass. Fr. Dion will be presiding, along with Deacon Lezcano, as we honor the legacy of this saint who devoted his life to serving the poor. We are grateful to the school choir for providing beautiful music to accompany the liturgy.

As part of the celebration, luminary bags have been lovingly placed on the gravesides of St. Vincent de Paul parishioners, lighting the way for our prayers and remembrance. Join us in spirit as we reflect on the light of Christ in our lives and in the lives of those who have gone before us. ✨
