Happy Mother’s Day to the precious Mothers of Emmaus Cathedral Church, to every Mother in our community, and to Mothers all around the world.
Today, I pause with a heart full of gratitude, reverence, and love to honor the sacred gift called Motherhood.
A mother is more than a title. A mother is a sanctuary. A mother is often the first church a child ever knows, the first teacher of faith, the first example of sacrifice, the first voice of comfort, and the first visible expression of God’s tenderness in the earth.
Mothers have a way of carrying burdens no one sees, praying prayers no one hears, wiping tears no one remembers, and holding families together even when their own hearts are tired. They rise when others rest. They give when they are empty. They love when love is not always returned with the same measure. They keep the house, the heart, the children, the grandchildren, the church, and sometimes the entire community standing through the strength of their faith and the quiet dignity of their endurance.
To every Mother at Emmaus Cathedral Church, I want you to know that you are seen, honored, appreciated, and deeply loved. Your prayers matter. Your presence matters. Your wisdom matters. Your tears have not been wasted. Your labor has not been forgotten. Your faithfulness has helped shape lives, strengthen families, and build the spiritual foundation of our church.
To the grandmothers, godmothers, spiritual mothers, aunties, mentors, caregivers, and women who have stood in the gap for children not born from your womb but carried in your heart — today is for you as well. Motherhood is not only biological; it is spiritual, emotional, sacrificial, and divine.
As I have grown older, I understand more deeply that mothers are architects of destiny. They shape our conscience, correct our path, cover us in prayer, and plant seeds of hope that continue to bloom long after we have left their arms. Many of us are still living off prayers our mothers prayed years ago. Many of us survived storms because a mother somewhere called our name before God.
And today, my heart also travels beyond this earthly realm to Heaven, where I lovingly honor my dear Mother, Elder Mother Thelma Carr.
Mama, on this Mother’s Day, I miss you deeply. Your voice, your love, your correction, your prayers, your strength, and your presence remain forever written upon my soul. Though you have transitioned from labor to reward, your spirit still walks with me. Your love still speaks. Your prayers still cover. Your teachings still guide. Your memory still strengthens me. Heaven holds your body, but your legacy lives in my heart every day.
I thank God for the gift of your life. I thank God for the mother you were, the woman of faith you became, and the eternal imprint you left on your family, the church, and all who were blessed to know you. Today, I honor you not in sorrow alone, but in gratitude — because love like yours does not die. It simply changes address.
To every person reading this, take time today to honor the mothers in your life. Call them. Hug them. Thank them. Pray for them. Celebrate them. And for those whose mothers are now in Heaven, may God comfort your heart and remind you that love is stronger than death, memory is a sacred treasure, and legacy is the language by which mothers continue to live.
On behalf of myself, my family, and the entire Emmaus Cathedral Church family, I say with deep love and pastoral gratitude:
Happy Mother’s Day.
May the Lord bless every Mother with peace, strength, joy, healing, honor, and the beautiful assurance that your labor of love has not been in vain.
With love and blessings,
Chief-Apostle Dr. Lent C. Carr, II
