Before Africa’s youth began reclaiming their voice in global conversations…

There was Thomas Sankara.

President of Burkina Faso from 1983 to 1987.
A revolutionary leader.
A bold advocate for Pan-African unity and self-determination.

He renamed the country from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso — meaning “Land of Upright People.”

And he meant it.

Sankara reduced government luxury.
Sold the presidential fleet of expensive cars.
Vaccinated millions of children.
Promoted women’s rights and banned forced marriages.
Encouraged local production and economic independence.

He believed Africa did not need saving.

He believed Africa needed sovereignty.

At the United Nations, he challenged global debt systems and called out economic exploitation — speaking with clarity and courage beyond his years.

His leadership was short-lived, but his impact was not.

Thomas Sankara became a symbol of integrity in power.
Of leadership without excess.
Of vision rooted in dignity.

Today we honor Thomas Sankara —
A champion of progressive change.
A defender of African autonomy.
A reminder that courage in leadership matters.

Before colonizers wrote the narrative…
Before resistance was footnoted in history books…

There was Queen Nzinga.

A 17th-century African queen of the Ndongo and Matamba kingdoms (in present-day Angola) who fiercely resisted Portuguese colonial expansion and the transatlantic slave trade.

She was not only a warrior.
She was a strategist.
A diplomat.
A political mastermind.

When Portuguese officials attempted to disrespect her during negotiations by refusing her a seat, Nzinga reportedly had one of her attendants kneel so she could sit at equal height — signaling that she would not negotiate from a position of inferiority.

She understood symbolism.
She understood power.

For decades, she led military campaigns, formed strategic alliances, and defended her people against colonial domination.

Queen Nzinga refused to surrender sovereignty.

She governed.
She fought.
She negotiated.
She endured.

In a world determined to undermine her authority, she expanded it.

Today we honor Queen Nzinga —
A fierce defender of her kingdom.
A master of political resistance.
A sovereign who stood her ground.

March is a reminder.

You were never an afterthought.
Not in life.
Not in purpose.
Not in the heart of God.

Before anyone misunderstood you, overlooked you, or underestimated you, Heaven already wrote significance into your existence.

You are not here by accident.
You are not extra.
You are not too late.
You are not too much.

You are a woman of meaning, presence, and divine worth.

This month, we celebrate women not just for what they do — but for who they are.

You are a headline in His handwriting.
