St. John's Episcopal Church Founded in 1817 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, St. John's is a traditional Episcopal community of approximately 700 parishioners. St.

John's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina is a congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, a division of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Founded in 1817, it is located on Green Street in historic downtown Fayetteville. The congregation was formally organized April 7, 1817, and it became the first Episcopal church in the city. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Public tours are available by appointment.

Today, we welcome The Rev. Dave Davis who will be leading us in worship. The Rev. Davis was born and raised in Southern Philadelphia. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and served 21 years as an officer in Ranger and Special Forces units. After retiring, he ran Fort Bragg’s Installation Operations center and retired as a GS-12. During that time, he became a Deacon at Holy Trinity Fayetteville serving there for five years before going to Seminary at Sewanee. Once he completed Seminary, he served as a Rector of St. James the Fisherman in Shallotte, NC. He then retired from full-time parish ministry and now serves in Supply Priest roles at numerous parishes throughout the East Carolina Diocese.

Today, we welcome The Right Reverend Godffrey Tawonezwi who began his career as a secondary school science teacher for six years. After completing theological education at Bishop Gaul Theological College and the University of Zimbabwe, he entered the ordained ministry as a Deacon in 1994. He subsequently served as Assistant Priest and Rector at parishes in Harare, Zimbabwe. He then became the Dean of the Cathedral of St. Mary and All Saints, Anglican Diocese of Harare, Zimbabwe. In 2002, he was ordained Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Masvingo, Zimbabwe, a position he held until his retirement in 2022. Bishop Tawonezwi now resides in Charlotte, NC, with his wife and daughter.
