Founded in 1817 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, St. John's is a traditional Episcopal community of approximately 700 parishioners. St.

John's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina is a congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, a division of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Founded in 1817, it is located on Green Street in historic downtown Fayetteville. The congregation was formally organized April 7, 1817, and it became the first Episcopal church in the city. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Public tours are available by appointment.

Today, we welcome Adele Hatfield, who will lead us in worship. Adele Dees Hatfield is a retired priest living in Fuquay-Varina. She currently serves as supply priest for the Dioceses of East Carolina and North Carolina. Prior to attending Virginia Theological Seminary, she taught public school music and served as the organist/ choirmaster for Church of the Advent in Williamston. Adele was ordained to the priesthood at St. James, Wilmington in 2006. After her marriage to Charles Hatfield, who is also a priest, she served parishes in the Dioceses of Southwest Florida, Newark and Easton (MD). Adele sings with the Schola Cantorum of the Diocese of East Carolina. The Hatfield's have a blended family of 5 children and 11 grandchildren most of whom live in NC.

Today, we welcome The Reverend Ralph Clark, who will lead us in worship. Ralph is familiar to many of us as he was a member of St. John’s when he received his calling to ordained ministry. He graduated from the University of the South School of Theology, also known as Sewanee. Ralph served as a Chaplain with the U.S. Army and more recently, as Priest-in-Charge at St. Joseph’s here in Fayetteville. He is married to the former Vickki Gehring, whose family were long time members of St. John’s. We thank Ralph for celebrating Holy Eucharist with us during this period of transition.

A wonderful day of faith and fellowship!

Last Sunday we were overjoyed to welcome three new members into The Order of the Daughters of the King and also rededicate a member.

Please join us in celebrating their dedication to living out God's word and being faithful servants to our parish family!

The Motto of the Order:

"For his Sake....
I am but one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.
Lord, what will you have me do?"

Today, we welcome The Right Reverend Godffrey Tawonezwi began his
career as a secondary school science teacher for six years. After completing theological education at Bishop Gaul Theological College and the University of Zimbabwe, he entered the ordained ministry as a Deacon in 1994. He subsequently served as Assistant Priest and Rector at parishes in Harare, Zimbabwe. He then became the Dean of the Cathedral of St. Mary and All Saints, Anglican Diocese of Harare, Zimbabwe. In 2002 he was ordained Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Masvingo, Zimbabwe, a position he held until his retirement in 2022. Bishop Tawonezwi now resides in Charlotte, NC, with his wife and daughter.
