FRIDAY FUN FACTS
Did you know that Louisiana was the last state in the United States to repeal its “Head and Master” law?

Until 1979, this law gave husbands unilateral authority over marital property and assets, including certain property that may have been earned, purchased, inherited, or owned by a wife prior to marriage.

The repeal marked an important step toward greater legal equality within marriage and property rights for women.

It’s amazing to reflect on how much has changed in just a few decades and to appreciate the women who helped pave the way for future generations.

FRIDAY FUN FACTS
Did you know that Creole was first referred to the people in Louisiana before the United States purchased the state in 1803.

Creole refers to “the non-Anglo-Saxon culture and lifestyle that flourished in Louisiana before it was sold to the United States in 1803 and that continued to dominate South Louisiana until the early decades of the 20th century. Until then, native birth in Louisiana, the French language and Roman Catholicism were the benchmarks for identity in this Latin-based society that included people of white, black and mixed-race ancestry.”

FRIDAY FUN FACTS
Did you know Louisiana has had more official flags flown over it than Texas?

While Texas is famously known for its “Six Flags” history—representing six different nations or territories that governed the state—Louisiana has actually had nine different flags fly over its land throughout history. Some represented the same nation during different periods, but together they reflect Louisiana’s incredibly rich and diverse cultural heritage.

No other U.S. state is known to have had more flags flown over it than Louisiana!

History, culture, and southern pride all wrapped into one fascinating story. 📚

FRIDAY FUN FACTS
Did you know that Louisiana has over 3,500 lakes and reservoirs? Lake Pontchartrain is the largest, although technically it is an estuary. An estuary is brackish water that has a combination of both fresh water and salt water.

FRIDAY FUN FACTS
Happy Friday My Royal Sisters! Did you know that the state of Louisiana has the longest continuous bridge in the WORLD? Please understand how significant this is. It’s not only the longest in the United States of America or in North America or in the Western Hemisphere but in the entire WORLD!!!

* Length: ~23.8 miles (38.3 km)
* Location: Connects Metairie (near New Orleans) to Mandeville, Louisiana

Unlike bridges measured by aggregate, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is:

* One long, uninterrupted stretch
* No major breaks, curves, or separate segments
* Just a straight shot across open water

They say it feels surreal to drive across it.

* You’ll see nothing but water for miles in every direction
* On foggy days, it can feel like you’re driving into the sky
* There are no visible endpoints for long stretches

Oh! It’s a draws bridge too, giving ships the ability to cross it during specific times. It is truly an engineering marvel.

Thank God most of us will not have to cross this bridge during the retreat. Pray for those who do for sure. It truly is a test of faith to cross it.
