Honoring Our Very Own Nurse Hero — Sister Christina Brown! ❤️

Last week, BAYADA Nursing Agency celebrated and honored our very own Sister Christina Brown for the extraordinary work she does as a nurse.

Nursing is more than a profession, it is a ministry of compassion, healing, service, and presence. Every day, nurses enter spaces where people are hurting, afraid, uncertain, and vulnerable, and they bring not only their knowledge and skill but also a caring heart.

Sister Christina, we thank God for the gifts of compassion, excellence, reliability, and healing that you share so faithfully with others. Your dedication reminds us that sometimes making the invisible God visible looks like caring for someone when they are sick, offering reassurance when they are afraid, and bringing hope into a difficult moment.

We celebrate you and thank God that your commitment to serving others has been recognized and honored. Well deserved, Sister Christina!

John Wesley United Methodist Church’s Youth Take Over Service is happening this Sunday, August 30th at 11:00 AM!

Come and join us as our younger generation leads the way in worship and reminds us that God is at work in every generation!

Our theme is: “Every Season Is a New Opportunity for a New Beginning”
“For everything there is a season…” Ecclesiastes 3:1

We are excited to hear the Preached Word brought by Young Brother Joshua Williams.

Bring your children. Bring your grandchildren. Invite your friends and family. Most importantly, come ready to encourage and support the next generation as they use their gifts for the glory of God!

The Word Tree Scripture And Lesson

“God Is Still Working on My Heart”

Sometimes the change we need most is not around us, it is within us.

In Ezekiel 36:26, God makes a remarkable promise: “A new heart I will give you.” Notice who does the work. God says, “I will.” God does not merely tell us to try harder, do better, or fix ourselves. God promises to transform us from the inside out.

A heart of stone can develop when disappointment makes us guarded, hurt makes us bitter, fear makes us resistant, or life simply makes us weary. But God says, Give Me that heart. God can take what has become hard and make it tender again. God can restore our compassion, renew our desire to love, and give us a spirit that is responsive to God’s will.

And perhaps that is our prayer today: “Lord, don’t just change my circumstances, change my heart.”

Give me a heart that forgives.
Give me a heart that loves.
Give me a heart that listens.
Give me a heart that serves.
Give me a heart that looks more like Yours.

What a wonderful blessing and opportunity it has been for John Wesley United Methodist Church to partner with the United Way of Cumberland County and the Cumberland County Literacy Council in the important work of literacy.

Through this wonderful partnership, the children participating in our Leap & Learn Summer Literacy Program were blessed with free books that allowed them to begin building their very own home libraries. Even more, Literacy Ambassadors came faithfully every Tuesday and Thursday to sit with our children, open books, read stories, spark their imaginations, and remind them that reading can open doors to a world of possibilities. Looking forward to the growing partnerships and possibilities for children and families. May we keep turning pages and changing lives together.

Many of the children of this generation may never remember Dolly Parton the singer, will remember that lady whose picture and name appeared on the books that came into their homes.

The Word Tree Scripture: Romans 7:15 and Message

Paul says something many of us have felt: I know what I ought to do, but sometimes I find myself doing the very thing I don’t want to do.

Romans 7 reminds us that even faithful people wrestle. There can be a battle between our desires and our decisions, between who God is calling us to be and the habits that keep pulling us backward.

But here is the good news: the struggle does not mean God has abandoned you. In fact, recognizing the struggle can be evidence that God is working within you. You are no longer comfortable with what once controlled you.

Paul’s struggle in Romans 7 leads him toward the hope of Romans 8: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

So today, don’t allow yesterday’s failure to become today’s identity.

Keep praying.
Keep surrendering.
Keep growing.
Keep getting back up.

God’s grace is greater than your struggle, and the Holy Spirit is still transforming you.

We are so thankful that John Wesley United Methodist Church could be a blessing to Smith Temple during their food drive by providing additional space to accommodate the overflow of traffic.

What an organized and impactful event! This is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when God’s people and our community come together with a shared heart for service.

A special blessing to everyone who answered the call to feed the hungry and help meet the needs of our neighbors. Scripture reminds us:

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…” — Matthew 25:35

Special thanks to Trustee Chairperson Sister Doris Bluitt for supporting this collaborative effort, and to Trustee Sister Pamela Story for your helping heart and willingness to serve wherever needed.

This is what community looks like—churches working together, neighbors helping neighbors, and love being made visible through service.

John Wesley UMC is grateful that we could simply provide space so that someone else could continue fulfilling the mission God placed in their hands.

Together, we are making the invisible God visible! ❤️

The Word Tree Scripture:

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” — Romans 12:15

Romans 12:15 reminds us that one of the greatest gifts we can give another person is our presence.

Paul does not tell us to fix everything. He does not tell us to have all the right words. He simply calls us to enter into the experiences of others.

When someone is celebrating, love says, “I will celebrate with you.” We don’t allow jealousy or comparison to keep us from rejoicing over what God is doing in somebody else’s life.

And when someone is hurting, love says, “You don’t have to hurt alone.” Sometimes there are no words that can remove the pain. Sometimes the most Christlike thing we can do is sit beside someone, listen, pray, and remind them through our presence that they are not forgotten.

Jesus modeled this kind of compassion. At the tomb of Lazarus, even though Jesus knew resurrection was coming, “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). He entered into the grief of those around Him.

Romans 12:15 teaches us that Christian community means we don’t do life alone. Your joy becomes something I can celebrate, and your burden becomes something I can help carry.
