There are lots of ways to learn and have fun at the same time! The ISS partnered with the ISO to invite international students to a “Lunch and Laugh” today. The game was charades. It is really interesting to watch students from the different regions of the world communicate in ways that represent how they interact with the things and concepts where they’re from. I was invited to get in on the action and had a lot of fun. The meal was an American culinary delight of “Frito Chili Pie”. Judah was able to make some friends with people who were missing their young kids or siblings. I was also able to spend some time with my iFriend from Uzbekistan.

Good morning! We ended 2022 with on a high note with the Christmas Festival and I made wassail for the first time in my life. It was a joy to hear the students present about the focus of Christmas and the celebrations in their countries concerning the birth of Jesus. I took a sound recording of the whole room singing “Silent Night” and I have listened to it many times since. I didn’t want that song to stop! It was so special.

I was invited to partner with the Department of Graduate Retention and host a meeting for international students’ families at Brad’s house. I took Judah with me to make some friends and he was so happy to meet a boy his age from Bolivia. They played hide and seek while the parents talked. This was a huge blessing to be a part of and a major reason for our move from Arizona State to Arkansas. Brad’s House is a 2 minute walk from the International Students and Scholars department and was the perfect place for the meeting. I praise the Lord for open doors here on campus.

On January 10th, we had our new international student orientation. We got several new interested students to register for notifications. One even agreed to join us for our “Lunch in an American Home” the following Saturday.

Thank you all for praying for students from other contries to be ministered to and hear the Gospel on campus. We are building friendships here that have produced many Gospel conversations because of every church and individual that prays and supports financially. Your sacrifice is not taken for granted.

Your missionaries to the nations,

Josh and Angela Edwards

Finals are here this week and that's a wrap on our first semester at the University of Arkansas.

Included is our last report of the year. We are greatly encouraged about the friendships and ministry that happened through this whole year. God has been faithful as we have stuck with our convictions and calling to reach the unreached with the Gospel. This means being unconventional and extremely intentional. I deeply appreciate the churches and individuals who understand this and support this great need. You all are our heroes!

Today, I have dropped of our promotional material for the spring orientation for international students to receive in their welcome packets. With the Lord's help, we will continue to build upon the many spiritual conversations and Gospel fellowships that have begun this semester. God will do great things with simple obedience and focused mission. Thank you to all who support and pray for keeping us on the mission field month by month for the sake of the King and his Kingdom. We love you all!

Happy Wednesday! People need some encouragement and hope. That’s why we’re on campus with the Word of God and opportunities to connect others with the Lord. We’re letting people know about our upcoming events and handing out free Bibles. There are Bibles written in Hindi, Chinese, Portuguese, Korean, Arabic, and English. We have Gospel handouts as well. Please pray for the Lord to open the way for more conversations and for me to go back with fewer Bibles than I came with!

Weekly update:

On Wednesday, a student from Brazil asked for a ride to get his guitar fixed for an upcoming cultural presentation. You know I don’t need much of an excuse to go to a guitar shop! I’m thankful for the opportunity to drive students to get things they need done.

Thursday’s international night was a blessing and I was grateful to have a wonderful, faith-filled conversation with a student. Every meeting has been a joy. Please pray for more opportunities for building relationships!

On Sunday, I took my co-pilot with me to Liberty MBC in Harrison to fill in as the Pastor was away. I’m so glad Parker was able to be with me.

Thank you for your prayers and support. We are passing them on to bless the nations represented on campus.

Update time!

Our weekly meeting called "International Nights" was met with rain off and on and caused some students to not come. One student rode their bike anyway to the meeting and we were able to share some food and a really good conversation about adapting to a new culture. This student was from Panama and offered great insight into the differences and similarities between the two cultures. We were able to have a good spiritual discussion as well and I will continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to give guidance and opportunity for the student to continue to search for the truth of Jesus Christ being the Savior of the world.

Saturday morning provided an opportunity to attend the Stevens Creek Missionary Baptist Association meeting in Judsonia, AR that was hosted by Clearwater MBC. It was a joy to be with my home association again, and it was extra special for it to be at my home church. I was licensed to preach, married my wife, and preached my first sermon at Clearwater MBC. The fellowship was wonderful and it was very moving to hear of the faithfulness of God's churches over the last 131 years. So much has changed, but the Gospel is still boldly proclaimed. May God bless them as they continue to work for Him.

It is a joy to report on the blessings of July and August. We want to express our gratitude to the churches of the American Baptist Association that support through prayer, hands-on help, and financially. We cannot do this without your help. We have been able to pass those blessings to international students already! I have been instructed from the students to tell the churches "Thank you for your love and generosity!" At every opportunity and event, I tell them that it is made possible by the churches that make it possible. You are impacting the nations!

Angela has given of her time and talents to make sure that everything has gone smoothly as we meet students. She gives and sacrifices so that we can do what God has asked us to do. She is truly a tremendous blessing. Thank you, Angela!

Our sending church, Lonoke MBC, and Bethany MBC in White Hall, AR gave specific offerings to help with the expense of welcome week. Thank you for helping us get what we need to make the connections that we were able to make and bless the students.

We must express our deep appreciation to Jack Cross and Dominic Hackman. These men have gone above and beyond to allow us the opportunity to reach a different demographic of university students. They have shared space, knowledge, and connections for the sole purpose of growing the Kingdom of God on campus. We thank God for them!

Now, bring on September!
