According to several grave markers, the existence of Chapel Grove dates to at least 1886. The grave markers belong to Phyliss, the wife of Solomon Robinson, who died in 1886 at the age of thirty-six. Two pioneers help build Chapel Grove, Mr. Both men are considered founding members of Chapel Grove AME Zion Church. Eliza Fisher is the mother of the late Simon Fisher (Papa). Brother Fisher was a fai
thful member who also served as a member of the Trustee board. Brother Fisher strived to maintain the upkeep of the church, and at the age of eighty, Brother Fisher could be found crawling under the church to ensure its cleanliness. He believed the church building and grounds should be maintained to reflect the “glory of God”. Brother Fisher’s mottos were, “Don’t go too far, stay too long, and come back too late”. W.E. Turner, a member of the Tar Heel Circuit, pastored the church from 1952 to 1980. He pastored Chapel Grove for 28 years. Chapel Grove has been blessed to have beautiful pastors assigned as its under-shepherd throughout the years. Each of them has made lasting contributions.
