Feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus

Jesus said to the Jewish crowds:
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give
is my flesh for the life of the world." (Jn 6:51)

May we embrace the gift of God's grace which we receive in the Eucharist, and allow it to fuel our lives "for the life of the world."

We know that our retreatants experience God in a powerful and often transformative way when here at Loyola on the Potomac. Today we prayer for all of them - we pray for one another - that the graces received be made ever new. Amen.

As world leaders and scientists gather in Azerbaijan for World Environment Day, our retreatants look forward to a weekend appreciating the beauty of nature.
Through participation in painting and planting activities, along with reflections and prayer that connect them to the natural world, may this experience draw them closer to the Creator who continues to call upon them to preserve and restore life. Amen.

Peaceful, prayerful, gentle days here at Loyola on the Potomac as our 8-Day silent retreat continues. Enjoy this poem by Mary Oliver.

☀The Sun

Have you ever seen
anything
in your life
more wonderful

than the way the sun,
every evening,
relaxed and easy,
floats toward the horizon

and into the clouds or the hills,
or the rumpled sea,
and is gone--
and how it slides again

out of the blackness,
every morning,
on the other side of the world,
like a red flower

streaming upward on its heavenly oils,
say, on a morning in early summer,
at its perfect imperial distance--
and have you ever felt for anything
such wild love--
do you think there is anywhere, in any language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure

that fills you,
as the sun
reaches out,
as it warms you

as you stand there,
empty-handed--
or have you too
turned from this world--

or have you too
gone crazy
for power,
for things?
