As we continue in our reading of The Love Stories of the Bible Speak by we turn our focus now to Samson and Delilah. This story is found in Judges 13-16 and Shannon was able to give great insight into the life of Samson prior to his relationship with Delilah. Samson’s parents dedicated him to God but Samson had a few issues such as lust for women, not accepting sound counsel from his parents and pride just to name a few. Thus ultimately led him down the path that was not pleasing to God and straight into the arms of Delilah. She not only was a deceiver but the lust of money ruled her and these selfish desires from both Samson and Delilah did not make for a healthy loving relationship. In the end Samson was taken captive his eyes gorged out and a “freak show at a party celebrating his own undoing”. This obviously was not a relationship rooted in love as God has designed for us. Instead each party was self seeking putting their own wants ahead of the other. This was not a relationship destined for longevity or healthy by any means as both parties did not invite God into their midst. Samson’s end marked him as a hero in the Hall of Faith because he prayed to the Lord “Sovereign Lord, remember me….” God heard his prayer and restored Samson strength for one final time.
Three key takeaways from this story 1 If you have godly parents listen to their sound advice.
2 When searching for your mate make sure you are not diving into a relationship with lust and that it is grounded in your mutual love for the Lord and that He will be center of your relationship if not then RUN this is not the person for you!
3 That even if you mess up you can call on the One who loves you far more than you could ever imagine, our Lord and Savior, ask for forgiveness for walking in your own way and then begin the new journey with the first step and each one thereafter seeking God’s perfect will for your future relationship.
Ok maybe one more thing …. If you are in a current marriage relationship and God is not the center and you know that either you, your spouse or both of you are living in your own wants and desires and there is strife in the home then now is the time to hit your knees, ask for forgiveness and seek God’s desire for you both. Someone has to be the first to do this or you could find yourself in a place you don’t want to be just as Samson. The part of the story that is the best is that God hears you when you cry out, He forgives, He loves and He alone makes you a hero not a zero!

Our book club read this month is The Love Stories of the Bible Speak by Shannon Bream. Jumping right into one of the greatest love stories she starts out with the Song of Solomon. I just wanted to touch on 2 points, she states “Much like a fire, which can be destructive without boundaries, passion alone can be disastrous.” How true that is as we see this on display each and every day as we encounter people who are living with broken hearts, broken homes and broken and skewed ideas of what true love is and how it is meant to be because instead of seeking God’s direction in this area through His Word people seek the world’s advice which leads to destructive relationships instead of a “celebration of courtship and marriage.”
The second point is when she writes about the Song of Solomon 2:15 Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom. She points out that “temptations, resentments, complaints, selfish behavior, etc. opens the door to real damage”. This will rob us of the wonderful gift of love that God created for us and wants us to have. So as Shannon writes “it is always the right time to catch the little foxes and toss them out of our sacred vineyards”. Now is the best time to evaluate and see if there are any foxes in your vineyard and if so toss them out today and see where your relationship goes by seeking God and His Word in this precious area of your life.

Merry Christmas and tis’ the season for giving. We were so blessed to be able to collect and gift the residents of Hickory Hill warm blankets this Christmas. 🎅🏻 🤶🏻🎄
