✨ Love God, and do what you will. ~ Augustine ✨

Yesterday morning was a powerful reminder of our liberty in Christ from the Book of Galatians.

Like children reared with love and discipline and reasonable rules and restrictions who grow up and one day realize they have free will—it’s every parent’s hope that their children will freely use that free will to seek and obey God.

God the Father desires the same of his children. He’s given us freedom in Christ, emancipating us from law, gifting us forgiveness, and now says in essence, “Go, do what you want.”

But what does God want his children to want?

He wants us to freely choose his will over our own; to desire him, to desire life. And when we do:

1️⃣ We will stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free and not return to our own wills, to law, and become entangled again with a yoke of bo***ge (Gal. 5:1).

2️⃣ We will use our liberty not as an opportunity for the flesh but instead through love we will serve one another (Gal. 5:13).

3️⃣ We will walk in the Spirit and produce his fruit because this is what characterizes a life living free in Christ (Gal. 5:16-25).

Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). John adds: “his commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3).

When sons of God love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength they will want to do what He wants because God has written his laws on their hearts (Jer. 31:33).

This is true freedom.

✨ A Mind For God ✨

“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand I shall not be moved” ~ Ps. 16:8

Yesterday’s lesson gave us four practical ways to keep our minds focused on God:

1️⃣ Through his creation—the noise of this world can distract us from seeing God through the things he has made. Like Jesus, take time outside to view his beauty, his majesty, and his power. Psalms 8 and 19 are great reminders of the glory of God’s handiwork.

2️⃣ Through his word—only here can we know the will of God and what he expects from us. How well do you know God’s word? How much time do you devote to its pages? Read it, think on it, pray it, apply it. Psalm 119 is a great reminder of the importance of the word of God.

3️⃣ Through prayer—it’s our only way to the Father. He already knows our hearts but he still desires us to bring all things before him. Through Christ we have this life line; this special relationship, and by it we learn our hearts better. Daniel’s prayer in Daniel 8 and Jesus’ prayer in John 17 are great examples of prayer.

4️⃣Through fellowship—it’s a blessing and a privilege to gather together as God’s people; to pray together, sing together, to encourage one another, eat together, share together. Is this a priority in your life? After all, we share a common cause, hope, faith, and purpose.

May God help us to better have a mind for him!
