Tuesday’s Truth
Not long after Jesus healed the paralytic at the pool on the Sabbath, AND instructed him to pick up and carry his mat, which was against the “rules,” we are told that “the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him…” (John 5:16)
That seems a bit extreme, but in their minds the Scriptures themselves vindicated their vitriol.
However, rather than offering an apology, or admitting to an infraction, which you NEVER have to do if you are perfect, “Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” (John 5:17)
As you can imagine, that didn’t sit well with the marshal's of morality, and God willing, we’ll talk more about that the next time we meet, but for now, I’d simply like to share as a point of interest, that most commentators agree that what Jesus was communicating about work in verse 17, was that “God never clocks out.”
He instituted the Sabbath, commanding His people to keep it holy, and after creating the world and everything in it, rested, to set an example for human beings to follow, (Exodus 20:8-11).
But ever since, Jesus insists that He and His Father have never taken a day off.
That’s a good thing, because if God ever did clock out, the universe would implode or explode, as I understand it.
Colossians 1:17 says of God the Son, “He existed before anything else, and He holds all creation together.” (NLT)
In simple terms, He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.
One would think, in light of that revelation, He can also hold our lives together, when by every indication, they’re falling apart.
God never clocks out.
That’s a comforting thought.
As for me, it’s Memorial Day; I'm not that important, and the aroma of cheeseburgers cooking on the grill is wafting into my workspace.
So, God bless and sayanora!
