Cornerstone Christian Church is a church that affirms that God's word has the answers to the problems that plague our individual lives and society. While the challenges, philosophies, and societal norms may swing in many directions, God's word is unchanging, the authorial intent of scripture is unchanging, and God Himself is unchanging. The mixing of philosophical systems, political ideologies, or
any categorizations of human beings that are not offered by scriptures are problematic and detracts from the truth of the Gospel. OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as being the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God and the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. (Ps. 119:105; Rom. 15:4; 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Gen. 1:26; Deut. 6:4; 2 Cor. 13:14)
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and is true God and true man. Jesus lived a sinless life and offered Himself on the cross in our place accomplishing redemption for all who put their faith in Him. He arose bodily from the dead three days later and ascended into heaven, where, at the Father’s right hand, He is now Head of His Body the Church, our Savior and Mediator between God and man, and will return to earth in power and glory to consummate His redemptive mission. We believe the Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. He was sent by the Father as promised to convict the world of sin, to glorify the Lord Jesus, and to transform the lives of believers into the likeness of Christ. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance for doing God’s will. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. (John, 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:12, 3:16; 2 Cor. 3:17; Gal. 5:25; Eph. 1:13)
We believe that God created mankind – male and female – in His own image and likeness, free of sin, to glorify Himself and enjoy His fellowship. Tempted by Satan, but in the sovereign plan of God, man freely chose to disobey God, bringing sin, death and condemnation to all mankind. All human beings, therefore, are totally depraved by nature and by choice. Alienated from God without defense or excuse, and subject to God’s righteous wrath, all of mankind is in desperate need of the Savior. (Gen. 3:1-6; Rom. 1:18, 32, 3:10, 23, 5:12)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are redeemed and justified by His shed blood. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his or her life by faith. (John 1:12, 14:6; Rom. 5:1, 6:23, 8:37-39; 1 Cor. 12:13; 2 Cor. 5:21; Gal. 3:26; Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5)
We believe in “believer’s baptism”. That is, baptism by immersion is a conscious decision made by one who has already trusted Christ as their personal Savior. (Acts 8:12)
We believe the Lord’s Supper is the united commemoration by believers of Christ’s death until He comes and should be preceded by a careful self-examination. (1 Cor. 11:20-29)
We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God, a relationship in which they are eternally secure. (John 10:27-30; Acts 16:30-31; Rom. 8:31-39; Eph. 2:8-9, 4:30)
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost along with Satan and the other fallen angels. (Acts 1:3, 9; Heb. 7:25-26)
We believe in “that Blessed Hope,” the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (1 Thes. 4:13-18)
We believe that upon placing one’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, the believer is made part of the Body of Christ, the one universal Church, of which Jesus Christ is the Head. The Scriptures command believers to gather locally in order to devote themselves to worship, prayer, teaching of the Word, fellowship, the ordinances of baptism and communion, service to the local body through the development and use of talents and spiritual gifts, and outreach to the world to make disciples. Wherever God’s people meet regularly in obedience to this command, there is the local expression of the Church under the watchful care of elders. A church’s members are to work together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ. (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-46; 1 Cor. 14:26; Eph. 1:22-23, 4:16; Titus 1:5)
