On Sunday, June 7th, we will be joined by local human rights advocate, Siham Amedy, who will speak about some of the issues facing the immigrant community in Fargo-Moorhead, as well as draw from her own experiences as a Kurdish immigrant.
Siham Amedy is a Kurdish-American community leader, public health professional, and advocate for equitable systems. Born in Amedy, Kurdistan and raised in the Fargo-Moorhead area after arriving in the United States as an asylee, she has dedicated her career to helping individuals and families navigate immigration, education, career development, and community resources.
A graduate of Moorhead High School, Siham earned a Bachelor’s degree in Human and Health Sciences from Concordia College and a Master of Public Health from North Dakota State University. Throughout her career, she has worked in healthcare, social services, public health, higher education, and community development, helping people access opportunities and build successful futures.
Siham currently serves as an Individual Giving Manager with Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) and serves on the Moorhead Economic Development Authority Board. She has worked extensively with immigrants, refugees, students, and families, connecting people to education, employment, healthcare, housing, and other essential resources.
Siham has been recognized as Virginia McKnight Binger Heart of Community Honor, the YWCA Cass Clay Women of the Year Award, and being named a leader in the United Way of Cass-Clay 35 Under 35 program.
